The commercial 45 length of David & David's "Welcome to the Boomtown" is 5:28. (Timing info comes compliments of abagon. The printed record label time is 5:30.) The reason I post this is because to date all database CD appearances of this song run slightly longer.
Does anyone have the David & David parent vinyl LP Boomtown from 1986 on A&M? I ask because I suspect the LP length of "Welcome to the Boomtown" may be several seconds longer than the 45.

FYI, the DJ edited version with the censored lyric cannot be pasted into the LP version because the 'cheap thrills' does not exist in the LP version.
This song is definitely a forgotten favorite...

Just headed to YouTube...the video runs 3:55, yet still features the 'cocaine' lyric.

There are two DJ edited versions. One retains the LP lyrics, while the other has the cheap thrills lyrics. Both of them are the same length, if I recall correctly. The one with the alternate lyrics is also a very slightly different mix.

I assume from this that the uncensored promo edit can be extracted from the stock 45/LP version?

I think you meant to say "cannot be extracted." The censored promo
contains lyrics that are not on the LP version.

Sorry, I misread Doug's post. Yes, the uncensored promo CAN be
created from the LP/stock 45 version.

Two questions: does anybody have the edit points to recreate the uncensored promo version?
Also, has the censored promo version appeared anywhere in digital form?

Basically, just join the third and final chorus after the second verse, deleting
the second chorus and bridge.
The censored version has never been issued in digital form as far as I know.
Can't even find it on YouTube. I honestly wondered how many stations played
that P.C. version of it, seeing as the song doesn't glorify drug use at all.
