I just came across two promo copies of this song. JimCT, one says 2:50 (actual time 2:51), the other 3:20 (actual time 3:19). The 3:19 version has the 28 second LP intro, but without the vocal-talk overdubs. Otherwise they sound the same.
There is also a vocal trail-off at the very beginning of the CD 45 version (Time-Life's Solid Gold Soul-1976, which is the only 45 version in Pat's database) that isn't on the 2:51 vinyl 45 version.
Interestingly, the intro is not the same as the LP version intro, in that the 45 intro has no vocal overdubs, while the LP intro is loaded with talk. So the only way to create the 45 is to take the intro from the 45 right up to the vocal, "Come on y'all."
Since Pat's DB lists this 2:50 version as the 45 version, what is the 3:20 version? Could it be that the 3:20 version is the 45 and the 2:50 version is a DJ-edit? I don't have a commercial copy to be able to check. Anybody know for sure?

As a supplement to Robert's very helpful promo 45 info, I wanted to also pass along a report from Jim that his commercial 45 copy of the O'Jays' "Livin' for the Weekend" has an actual and printed run time of 2:50. Currently, the database only shows DJ 45 info for this song.

The correct 45 version (that runs 2:51) appears on the UK CD The Very Best Of The O'Jays released in 1998. The disc has 21 tracks with this song as track 16. There are lots of CD releases with the exact same title, so to make sure you have the correct one look for the song "Love Train" to be included twice (track 2 is the 45 edit and track 21 is the extended version that runs over six minutes long).
I have never seen the promo version that runs 3:20 on CD, but it seems like that one can be created using the longer LP version.
