Brenda Russell feat. Joe Esposito "Piano In The Dark (Cry Just A Little)"

This is a strange one: The promo vinyl single (there was no promo CD single) features the single version, dubbed 'Edited Version' (4:19 - 4:24) on the B-side, while the 'Album Version' (5:19) is featured on the A-side. All copies of the commercial single (cassette, vinyl, CD) released worldwide features only the 'Album Version'. The 'Edited Version' is the version featured on both, the North American music video and the International music video.

There are two pressings of the commercial U.S. vinyl single. Both are the same, the only differences is: the first pressing indicates the name of the song as simply "Piano In The Dark" everywhere on the release; the second pressing indicates the name of the song as "Piano In The Dark (Cry Just A Little)" but only on the A-side label. On both vinyl singles, Joe Esposito is credited everywhere, except on the front artwork. Joe Esposito is fully credited on the cassette single's front artwork.

As far as I know, the 'Edited Version' appears on one UniversalTV compilation (UMG distributes A&M Records), "Soul Sisters"., and a couple of others. However, it seems that the 'Album Version' is featured on most V.A. compilations as well as Brenda's own GH compilations.

Interesting discovery. What is the actual time of the "edited version" and what was cut out [or where is/are the edit(s)]?

According to the database, the 4:22 Edited Version is
available on a number of CD's.

I think the shorter version is just an early fade.

My files have notations of "LP and 45 length" running about 5:20, and "promo 45 length" running about 4:27.

The U.S. Music Video:

International Music Video (this is the original music video):

I'm almost positive that the International Music Video was not shown in the U.S. simply because it's implied that Brenda's lover / boyfriend is a blonde, white man.
