my commercial 45 for the bob seger song "against the wind" issued as capitol 4863 states a run time of 3:45 and does indeed run that length and is an edit of the full length 5:30 cd/lp version....this 45 run time info s/b be added to the db....aaron...thx for the edit you did for me a long time ago...

Actually, the 45 version of "Against The Wind" is not a
straight edit. There is a mix difference that goes along
with the edit at about the 2:01 mark. It's only a second
or two that was mixed differently, but was apparently done
to make the edit smoother. As a result, the 45 cannot be
recreated by editing the LP version; I had to splice in a
few seconds from a 45 needledrop.

Yes, indeed. I spliced in vinyl at that section.

All I've ever seen on CD is the LP version that is five and 1/2 minutes long.

The 45 version is not on CD domestically or as an import.

I'm positive I had seen an edited version of the song on one of TM Century
CDs.

The edited version is on the following GoldDiscs:
GoldDisc: 1004N   -- Cut 17
GoldDisc: 101N   -- Cut 13
GoldDisc: 1118N   -- Cut 3
GoldDisc: 914N   -- Cut 14

Whether the edit(s) are correct I'm not sure.

The versions on TM Century GoldDiscs are unsuccessful attempts at editing the LP vers down to mimic
the single version. I believe it was documented earlier in this thread that there's unique audio
midway through the single version that's not in the LP version.

That's correct, Dave. TM edited the LP version as closely as they could to match the single, but their version does not 100% match the 45 due to the unique audio.

Bob Seger is another artist that is not a huge fan of his released 45 edits/versions so doubtful this one will ever get officially released.

It took years for Bob Seger to have his catalog
available on streaming services like Spotify and download
sites like iTunes. It only became available in the last
couple years.
