My commercial 45, which is mono, has a listed time of (2:48) and an actual time of (2:47). I only post this information because all 26 current CD listings for this song in the database show timings between (3:07) and (3:09).

my commercial 45 for the al green song 'livin' for you'
issued as hi 2257 lists the run time on the label as 3:09
and does indeed run that length and is identical to the
3:09 version from the right stuff 'greatest hits' cd...this
differs from what jim report on his vinyl 45.....my run out
groove etching has 'HI 2791 X'...looks as if there are two
pressings of this vinyl 45.....this info s/b added to the
db...doubling up this post

Ed, I just pulled out the commercial 45 I based my original post on. My
deadwax info for it is a handwritten "HI-2791-EV 11-9-73". I also own a
mono/promo DJ 45 for this song. The deadwax info on the mono side of
my promo exactly matches what is on my mono, commercial 45. (The
stereo side deadwax is the same, except for a "Z" before the initial "HI".)
Ed, I have also noticed that, on the actual label for both these 45s, under
the 45-2257-E, and the Copyright 1973 Hi Recording Corp., it says "HI-
2791-EV" on it, which also matches my deadwax info. Since you say your
45's deadwax ends with a "X", and neither my stock nor promo 45 does,
does your 45 label state something like "HI-2791-X" on it? In any case,
your copy would appear to be the rarer of the two pressings, based on the
consistency of my stock/promo deadwax info.

jim,
on the right side middle of the label it only says '45-2257
then a P in a circle then 1973 Hi Recording Corp., then
under that is says (Recorded in Memphis)....it does say on
the left side middle 'time 3:09 Hi 2791'....no sighting of
any 'E' or 'EV' on my label...and no 'X' listed on the
label either...

The shorter length of this song does appear on CD on the Hi Records Singles Collection. It's a three disc set of all of the a & b-sides of Al's '70s singles released on the Hi label. This US release is on the Fat Possum Records label.

Santi are you sure this is a U.S. CD release? If so what is the catalog number as all I can find on the internet is a U.K. pressing of this cd.

From what I've read, the recent "Hi Records Singles Collection" release doesn't use correct single mixes across the set, only for a few tracks. Is this correct?

A handful of folks on the Hoffman forum were praising this release for great
sound quality. It was dirt cheap, so I picked it up for $13.50, which included
shipping from the UK. The 3-disc set does not look like an import, and the
address for Fat Possum Records is in Mississippi.
Reissue Producer: Bruce Watson
Original Master Tape Transfer by Scott Bomar At Electraphonic Recording,
Memphis, TN * Mastered By Clay Jones At Pete's Room, Oxford, MS
Amazon does not list it as an import, either. Strangely, though, I couldn't find
any US sellers offering it for sale in December when I ordered it. Even weirder,
the Fat Possum Records website has absolutely no mention of this release at
all.

FPH16103 is the catalog number (the entire barcode reads: 7 67981 16103 7). The address is a P.O. Box in Mississippi as Aaron stated above.

Hi Records 45s continued to be mono until at least 1975 and, although the title [The Hi Records Singles Collection] suggests these are all the single mixes, of the Top 40 hits only "Tired Of Being Alone", "Let's Stay Together", and "Full Of Fire" are mono. |

Pat, if you decide this qualifies as a domestic release, I am more than happy to post the run times, (M) or (S), and versions of the top 40 hits.
