Since recently I asked about the Tubes' other hit "Don't Want To Wait Anymore" and whether the 45 can be made from the LP (which it can't), might as well ask about their bigger hit "She's A Beauty." I know the T-L Sot80s 1983 CD has the 45 version (I don't have it, though).

So can "She's a Beauty" be edited to replicate the 45?

You know, I've loved the song ever since I was a little kid, but I never realized that the 45 was edited until you asked. (I knew that their superb follow-up, "Tip Of My Tongue", was edited for the 45, though. That track totally smokes - it sounds like Earth, Wind & Fire - but it sounded nothing at all like "She's A Beauty" and radio completely ignored it. But I digress...)

The true 45 is found on Rhino's Just Can't Get Enough: New Wave Hits Of The '80s Vol. 8 (1994, runs 3:28).

The LP version is found almost everywhere else and runs 3:55-3:57. My version of choice is on Cema Special Markets' Rock On 1983 (1996), which is digitally exactly 1.1 dB louder than Mystic Presents Cool Rock (1995). The version on Time-Life's Sounds Of The Eighties 1983-1984 (1995) is a different EQ than that on Priority's Rock Of The 80's Vol. 3 (1992), and both are compressed/maximized - I'd avoid them if possible.

Here are instructions for creating the 45 edit from the LP version:

Keep 0:00-1:59.1 of the LP version.
Edit on the snare in the middle of the word "love" at the beginning of the second chorus.
Remove the 32 beats from 1:59.1-2:16.3.
Keep the 159 beats from 2:16.3-3:42.0.
Put a 32-beat fade from 3:24.8 (downbeat on word "love" at beginning of second chorus after the break) to 3:42.0 (downbeat at last word "love" before LP version fades).

Your mixdown will run 3:24.7, with an edit at 1:59.0 and a 32-beat fade from 3:07-3:24. The fade of the true 45, as on the Rhino CD, has an abrupt start and a very long tail. A sinusoidal 32-beat fade as I described is a very good approximation of the fade shape, but it hits zero faster than the true 45, and so runs a little shorter.

Thanks, Ron. I'll give it a shot later on.

And I don't what I was thinking in stating the T-L CD had it. Thanks for the non-correction correction. :)

According to abagon, the actual and printed commercial 45 run time of the Tubes' "She's a Beauty" is 3:25. I only post this info because nearly all CDs in the database with the "45 version" comment run 3:28.

Thanks for the edit points. I meant to do this a while back forgot about it
and
heard the song on the radio just now. I was able to edit my LP to 45 version
with a run time of 3:26.
