Is there a list somewhere of the titles that are scheduled for release? Being in Canada, I doubt that too many of them will be imported here. I'd like to know what's out there so I know what to look out for, either thru e-bay, or my next trip to the States.

Or...some other online outlet...

I doubt that'll happen until the box set that comes out after Streisand DIES.

Brian:

Any indication whether all those tracks are 45/single versions?

Except for "Thriller" and "Everything She Wants," it doesn't specify. I know Sexual Healing's instrumental B-side will be making its CD debut on that ringle.

Well, I have a little more hope: CD Universe now has sound samples up for the "Thriller" ringle, including one for "Can't Get Outta the Rain."

Hmmm, my local Borders bookstore here in NH must not have gotten the memo, lol. Was there about 7-8 hours ago (Tuesday evening), when a fairly large cardboard display bin caught my attention. Walked up and realized it was filled w/ a couple hundred new CDs in slim 5" x 5" cardsleeves - yep, it was a special display made just for the new ringles! Spent about five minutes checking 'em out, but didn't buy any (yet) - all were Sony/BMG artists/titles...

Returned to Borders this evening, hoping for another look at the ringles, among other things. (Didn't know last Tuesday that they were supposed to have been pushed back two weeks until I read Brian W.'s post here later that night.) Sure enough, the display was now GONE! So just for the heck of it, I went to the info desk and asked an employee what had happened to it, w/o revealing what I'd read here. Her reply: "Oh, we had to put those away. We received a notice saying they can't be sold until November 6th! They'll be back next week." Further proof that word doesn't travel as quickly up here in the sticks, lol...

Looks like the "Ringle" has been pushed back yet again. My usual online store took them all off and Amazon now has also taken down the 11/6 date (you will be notified...). Will we ever see them "officially" released?

Amazon has said that for about a week, but it still lists 11/6 as the release date. And I got an email from Amazon Sunday saying my order of "Thriller" had shipped. Also, the Wherehouse (oops... F.Y.E.) here in Burbank told me on Saturday that they actually had six copies of the "Thriller" ringle in stock. (But turned down my request to sell it to me right there and then.)

CD Universe also says "usually ships in 1-2 days." I've got my fingers crossed.

That's great news, Brian! I'm hoping that there was so much demand that Amazon sold out of their current stock:) Let us know when yours arrives.

I was just relieved when FYE said they physically had it in stock. I was worried they would cancel it altogether if they didn't make the Halloween release.

I finally received my ringle of "Thriller," and I must say that the sound quality is very disappointing. The levels are SLAMMED to the absolute max, and it's distorted throughout. I'm just going to track down a mint copy on vinyl for "Can't Get Outta The Rain" and do my own transfer. Yes, it sounds THAT bad.

Sorry to hear the disappointing news, Aaron. And, yes, I think I'd rather have a mint vinyl dub of a song with nice audio levels than a CD that's gotten slammed-to-the-max "remastering" treatment.

I didn't think it was THAT bad, but, yes, I was disappointed too. I was kind of expecting it, though -- all CDs are mastered like that today.

Brian, it's more than just the maximized/compressed sound. There's some other distortion, too, that I'm certainly not hearing on my vinyl copy. It's especially apparent on the beginning "hooooo"---on the CD his vocal sounds distorted, but it's clear on the vinyl.

Roger Friedman was partially right about "Thriller 25." There are actually five new remixes with guest artists, but only one unreleased track from the original Thriller sessions, a song called "For All Time." It's coming out February 12th.

It apparently comes in your choice of covers, one with the original photo and this one:

.. Or so Sony claim .. it's actually a track with Michael's Dangerous era vocals on. very bizarre.

Off the Wall – Boy, was I surprised to find there have been three different mixes of this song -- the original LP, the 45 remix/edit, and a full-length remix. The 45 version can be found only on a Japanese CD3 from the series I just mentioned, called "Off the Wall/She's Out of My Life," Epic/Sony 10-8P-3045, UPC code 4988010603656. Actual running time is 3:48.

is this truly the 45 single version on the Japanese 3" CD.. i have it too.. but it sounds very strange to me.. different from the vinyl.. and the crazy laughing on the intro doesn't pan from left to right on this version.

I'm quite sure that's how the 45 is, at least my 45. I'll double check. EDIT: Just checked and, yes, that's how my 45 is -- no panning of the laughter from side to side.
