The mono version of this song runs approximately 6 seconds shorter
than the stereo mix. I don't have the original 45 to compare but does
anyone know how much one would have to pitch up the stereo version
to match the single speed? Thanks.

Even if you pitch it up, it won't quite match the single. The mono version has a piano note right on the downbeat after the cello open
that's either buried in the stereo or not there at all.

I had thought the 45 (mono) and LP (stereo) ran the same length, but the speed and mix made the differentiation. (There are some CDs that
do have a longer stereo fadeout.)

Isn't the version on the '20th century masters' cd the same as the mono
mix (only slower and with the extended intro)...? That one has the piano
iirc...

The version on the "20th Century Masters" release is currently labeled in the online database as "neither the 45 nor LP version." Isn't that stereo version the same one first released on a 4-LP set from 1972 titled "The 64 Greatest Motown Hits." Pretty sure it was also on the album "Motown Chartbusters Volume 4." The extended instrumental opening of this stereo version is longer than the 45 or LP (which is why it's labeled as a neither version). The overall mix of this neither stereo version is quite different from the 45 and LP versions.

Also note there's some Johnny Bristol guide vocal leaking
into this tune (he wrote it) on there. Audible in spots on
the Stereo version. The mono mix here is dedicated and
unique, and has the piano note right after the cello open
audible and shorter instrumental intro.

Are you sure it's Harvey? I always heard the male vocalist singing with Diana was Johnny Bristol (who co-wrote the song).
