According to abagon, the actual commercial 45 run time of Jermaine Jackson's "Let Me Tickle Your Fancy" is 3:49, not 3:45 as stated on the record label.

Pictures! This was a staple in the early days of my radio show, so much so that I always left the 45 adapter in the 45. It remains there to this day, under J.

The commercial 45:

The rerelease 45, with my adapter:

The 12 inch promo single (that stamp is KSTC from Sterling, Colorado, in case you're wondering):

The B-side of the promo 12-inch is two versions of a Rick James song. (!)

crapfromthepast,

I was not aware that the song was so popular. I recall it being a somewhat successful R&B hit only. Nice touch having Devo on the song. I love the song, and, if you have the vinyl, there is no dropout on the intro, like on all the CD versions I have.

I may be the only person in the universe that really digs
this song.

The 45 version on Motown Year-By-Year 1982 (1995)
sounds just fine to my ears - I don't hear a dropout on
the intro.

The 45 version on Greatest Hits is missing the
first full beat of the song - it should start on a
downbeat.

"Let Me Tickle Your Fancy" was recorded with a drum
machine (at 126.8 BPM throughout with no drifts), and
live clapping over it - pretty unusual, actually. If you
didn't know, the whole production is lifted verbatim from
Debbie Harry's "The Jam Was Moving", a Chic production
from one year earlier, including the robotic backing
vocals. Both songs rock.

The database doesn't indicate one but was there a difference between
the 45 version and the LP version? I only ask because Ron refers to a
"45 Version" above.
