does anyone know if there is a promo cd single for the song "sugar hill" by AZ........this cassingle was issued at a time when the format for singles was changing from cassingles to cd singles and the cassingle and cd single have different versions on them even though they have the same catalog number "EMI 58407".........the cassingle has the "album version" listed as the a-side but it runs 4:38 in length.....the album version on the full length cd and the album version on the cd single runs 4:08 in length.......the cd single also has the radio version but that also runs 4:08 in length.........what is odd is that the face of the cd single says track 2 is the album version (4:48), but it really runs 4:08.........i cannot find a 4:38 version anywhere..........can anyone shed some light on this........

Ed sent me a copy of the cassette single and I can report back that the cassette single is not an extended version of the LP but a true "45 version".

I also listened to the mp3 of Ed's cassingle, and it is the "Radio Version" with a 30 second chunk edited out toward the end. This missing chunk has never appeared on any version except the cassingle, as far as Ed & I can tell.

Ed, I only have a commercial CD single filed for this one (EMI 7243 8 58407 2 2), and it contains the following:
-Az-"Sugar Hill"
1-(Radio Version) (listed 4:08; actual 4:07)
2-(Album Version) (listed 4:08; actual 4:07)
3-(Instrumental) (listed 5:30; actual 5:31)
(Tracks 4 & 5-a different song, "Rather Unique")
I do not know the difference between tracks 1 & 2. If anyone wants to analyze it to determine this, let me know and I'll shoot them out.

I have a promo CD (EMI 7243 8 58407 1 5). The track listing is the same as Jim's commercial CD Single.

Based on the catalog number, I believe the CD that Paul listed back in 2010 is also a commercial CD single.
I just obtained a promo CD for "Sugar Hill" but it's a remix promo:
DPRO-10408
1. Remix (listed 4:18; actual 3:31)
Going back to Ed's original post, I'm wondering if a stock CD single with the 4:48 version might exist. The stock CD single I have lists the Radio and Album versions as 4:09 on the back insert, and the catalog number is E2-58407 RE1. The disc also has this "RE1" catalog number but lists the time as 4:48. Perhaps there is an early non-RE1 pressing where the back insert lists 4:48 and disc actually plays 4:48. Does anyone have a copy they can check?

After almost eight years I've dug my CD maxi single out again, and I now notice that the messages on both the front insert and the disc itself indicating it is a promo are merely stickers. There is also a mark through the barcode.

Thanks for double checking, Paul! So, your CD is truly a promo copy of
the retail single :)
