So it seems to take me three months to crank through a year of chart entries...
Updated to include 1974.
1974

Ron, thanks as always for posting this invaluable info!
I know that the lower chart dregs are starting to get tougher for you, but I sincerely hope that you'll at least consider doing everything that hit the Top 40 (or Top 50) for each year going backwards in time.

I notice you're missing a couple promo edits from '74:
"You & Me Against The World"-Helen Reddy (no child's voice)
"Don't You Worry 'Bout A Thing"-Stevie Wonder (no spoken
gibberish on intro)
Lemme know if you need dubs...

Yes - please send.
Removing the chatter would most certainly help the Helen Reddy song, but would drain some of the fun out of Stevie's song.

I have "Tin Man" on AM Gold 1974, labeled as the 45
version with no crossover from the previous song.
I don't believe the 45 had the crossover.

I believe that the 45 did have the crossover, but I don't have the vinyl to confirm. I know that some of the other tracks on the History album were remixed for that album.
For America's "Tin Man", the following discs all use the same analog transfer as History America's Greatest Hits (copyright 1975):- Time-Life's Sounds Of The Seventies Vol. 15 1974 Take Two (1991) - differently-EQ'd digital clone
- Time-Life's AM Gold Vol. 21 1974 (1996) - digitally exactly 1.2 dB louder than 1974 Take Two
- Reader's Digest's 4-CD American Pie (1998)
- Time-Life's 2-CD Singers And Songwriters Vol. 15 The '70s (2001) - digitally exactly 0.438 dB louder than 1974 Take Two
- Time-Life's 2-CD Classic Soft Rock Vol. 1 Summer Breeze (2006) - differently-EQ'd digital clone

Would the AM Gold 1974 listing then be considered to be
neither the 45 or LP version?

So why not swap the child's part on the Reddy record with Stevie's spoken bit and vice versa? Double the fun! ;)
Great work, Ron!
And yes, "Tin Man" definitely has the segue vestiges left at the beginning of the 45. I put my foot in my mouth over that same assertion in an earlier thread, as in "listen first, then post.

Slow going for 1973; apparently I had a lot of other stuff going on from May to November.
Updated to include 1973:
1973
I've updated all the lists from 1973-1998, too. (Links above.)
Up next: I'm going to go through the '80s top 40 hits (not the whole Hot 100) and make sure my notation is consistent with the database. 1972 will wait a little while.

I have a mp3 dub of the mono 45 for Bad, Bad Leroy
Brown. This may have been a mono mix, same as You Don't
Mess Around With Jim from 1972.

So it took over a year to get through 1972! (This does not bode well for the 1960s...)
1972
I've updated the first post in the thread, and updated the 1973-1998 files as well.

BTW Ron I enjoyed your recent radio shows where you featured only 1972 tracks. A pretty good year with many cool tunes.

I've SO been waiting for this update! Hopefully you can
finish the 1960s before your little guy starts college. :)

Paul,
Me too. It only gets a bit more complicated from here with the mono/stereo crossover in the 1969-1971 period and the much harder to find mono mixes.
The fact that 1972-1998 has been done is a testament to Ron's ability to catalogue, evaluate and assemble.
As I have communicated to Ron, my mono project will give him the needed assistance to fill in a majority of the gaps in the top 40. The 1960's beyond the top 40 is where Ron will most likely have the greatest difficulty. No one has even attempted to assemble hits that were put to CD because most years have 300 top 40 hits in the 1960's (if they are available at all). Most of that stuff is on 45's and has not seen the digital age yet.

I just want to say I still am so grateful that this list exists. I use it all the time to
figure out what edits or LP versions I have on various old compilations I have. I
know it hasn't been updated in a while but I need to go back through and see
what changes were made in late 2018 to the lists.

Patiently waiting for the 1971 list. Ron's lists are invaluable for any serious music collector.

I'm glad you guys are getting some use out of the big lists. They're easy to generate, so I should probably update them more often.
I refreshed the 1972-1998 links from the original post.
For Paul, here's what I have so far of 1971. It's only #1 to #380, so I have quite a way to go to reach the lowest rungs of the Hot 100. I have to find time and motivation to get to the end.

Quick question. I thought I read the Omigod! box set wasn't that great
sounding but you mention it a lot in the listings, mainly for the 45 versions. Is
this because this was the best source you had at the time or is the Omigod!
set really that good sounding?
