I must have been a really good boy this year, because Santa brought me a 3-CD promo set called “Too Much Heaven: Songs Of The Brothers Gibb.” The set was put out in 2004 by Retro Active & Warner/Chappell Music (RA-005 03).
Each disc comes in a cardboard slipcase with a photo collage of the original 45 labels and a few of the picture sleeves. The discs are housed in a red velvet box that also contains a booklet with short blurbs written by George Martin and Brian Wilson.
There are no printed times, so I have listed the actual times below. All songs are in stereo except where noted. For some songs, the liner notes listed a specific version, and that has been noted in brackets below. I have also made my own notes in parenthesis for those songs I could verify with the actual commercial and promo 45s.
I can say with certainty that “Nights On Broadway” is NOT the stereo promo edit. I can also say with certainty that “Tragedy” is a unique mono mix with extra reverb on the lead vocal. I may have a dub of the DJ 45 to compare, but if someone beats me to it, please post your findings on whether the mono side of the promo does contain extra reverb compared to a fold-down of the stereo mix.
Disc 1:
1. Spicks and Specks (2:54) (song starts at :06 – contains an intro that says “Spicks And Specks, final vocal, Barry Gibb, take 1” – heavy noise reduction; mono)
2. New York Mining Disaster (2:09) (LP version)
3. I Can't See Nobody (3:44)
4. To Love Somebody (2:59)
5. Holiday (2:53)
6. Massachusetts (2:22)
7. Words (3:14) (LP version)
8. I've Gotta Get a Message to You (2:50) (LP version)
9. I Started a Joke (3:07) (LP version)
10. First of May (2:47)
11. Lonely Days (3:46)
12. How Can You Mend a Broken Heart (3:57)
13. My World (4:18)

17. Mr. Natural [Commercial Single Edit] (3:36)
18. Jive Talkin' (3:44) (LP version)

20. Edge of the Universe (5:21) (studio version)
21. Fanny (Be Tender With My Love) [Commercial Single Edit] (3:31) (not exactly the commercial single version; fades later than 45)
22. Love So Right [Commercial Single Edit] (3:19) (verified w/promo 45 - length/fade is correct)

IIRC the promo edit of NOB ran ~2:50...how does this
version differ...correct edits with longer fade perhaps?
Is this version of "Tragedy" the same as the mono side of
the promo single, or is it a mix unique to this set?

One sure difference is the promo 45 was edited from the stock 45, which ran faster. So even if the fade was longer but the edits otherwise correct (which Aaron would have to verify), you'd still have to speed it up and adjust the fade to get the correct promo.

Nope, "Nights On Broadway" is an edit of the LP version. The edits do not match the US promo 45.
I am also wondering if "Tragedy" matches the mono side of the DJ 45. I have yet to locate my dub to find out, but I do think I have it somewhere.

OK, John was kind enough to send a dub his mono DJ version of "Tragedy," and it matches the version on my 3-disc promo set. The mono version does have extra reverb that is not on the stereo version.

Hey Aaron, I posted about this little goodie a while back. Pretty sweet isn't it? Nice packaging and filled to the brim with single versions. You inspired me to dig mine out of storage. Enjoy! :)

Hey, sorry to bring this thread back up, but can anyone
provide us with instructions to recreate the commercial 45
version of "Fanny (Be Tender With My Love)"?

This one's pretty easy, Grant: an early fade, plus a speed adjustment. Using the Tales From The Brothers Gibb track as the source (minus pre-roll silence):
1. Fade from 3:13.793 to 3:26.150, ending immediately after the word "got."
2. Slow resulting file down to a length of 3:28.489 by stretching 101.627%.
BTW, the DJ 45 and commercial 45 are the same.
