I figured if anyone had the Masked Marauders 45 it'd be you, Jim. :)
When I saw the listing, I looked at the Wiki entry about the Masked Marauders (not that I completely trust Wikipedia, of course, but it was an interesting read nonetheless).
And thanks for the info on "Stay/Rosie."

Van Morrison's "Come Running"/"Crazy Love" is going to be mono.
So is Tommy James's "Crimson and Clover"/"Some Kind of Love."

I'm also curious about that, Ed. The only promo I own (and know of) is a 1-track with the album version. There is an import single that lists "Radio Edit," but I don't know the run time or if it really is edited.

Now that will be a treat! The 45 mix of "People Are Strange" is odd (or, well, strange) sounding...something was done to the lead vocal that I can't put my finger on; maybe a slight phase effect or just some compression and eq. In addition to the vocal, the overall compression and eq definitely makes for a lo-fi sound that was clearly aimed at AM radio.
In any event, the mono 45 mix is a different animal than the common stereo version, so it will be good to have this available again.
Now if they would just release these 45 versions on a proper CD...

I'm guessing there's no chance of getting the Doors last 45 (Post-Morrison), Treetrunk, in any form, digital or otherwise.... not legitimately, anyway....i'd love to hear that one from a master tape.

The digital 45 on Crimson and Clover as posted on Rhapsody is mono, but appears to be the same version as the 40th anniversary CD, which does not feature the original 45 fade out. The original 45 fades out to a single "ding" with all other instruments gone.

Interesting observation, Bill. I don't own the 45, so I can't compare myself, but it is very common for CD masterings to fade out a couple seconds early to avoid tape hiss at the end. It's definitely not the same master... different EQ and not nearly as loud. I think the sound quality on the download is better... always thought the EQ on the 40th Anniv. was too harsh.
What's even stranger is that the Rhino download version runs about five seconds LONGER than the 40th Anniversary CD! (That's in addition to it running a hair slower than the 40th Anniversary.)

I went into iTunes to purchase this a couple of days ago. I found the listing, but when I tried to purchase it, I received an error saying that the item was no longer available. I tried a few more times, purchasing each song separately or whole album and got the same result.
I just went to iTunes today and the digital 45 for "People Are Strange" is no longer listed. Wonder why it was pulled? Bummer, since I was looking forward to replacing my needledrop version with one from a tape source (albeit lossy).

As does Amazon.
I got the A-side from iTunes before it was pulled (did not get the B-side though).

WEIRD. I bought mine from iTunes the first day it was out. Well, there's always Amazon, Rhapsody, and Zune, though they are straight 256kb MP3s.
If there's something I know is coming out as a download exclusive, I try right away to buy it, because several times something I wanted was for some reason pulled after a few days.

I got both sides from iTunes the day it came out.
Maybe The Doors had a hissy, because I have heard rumors for a while on the Steve Hoffman board (unsubstatiated) that there's a mono singles collection in the works for CD.

Could be, but "Light My Fire" remains available.

Besides it being in mono ("People Are Strange") are there any big differences between this digital 45 and the stereo version available for years?

The mono single version was compressed more and was designed to sound stronger on AM radio. Some people feel the echo effect on Jim's mike is different on the mono 45, it could be the same reverb only mixed louder. There is also more than one version of the stereo version floating around. On the original vinyl Best of the Doors (although it was a quad album) when Jim returns after the instrumental break and sings "When you're strange" you can hear background vocals with him.
On other vinyl and CD copies I have of the song and on the 45 he is solo.
But the CD "The Future Starts Here" and on all of the 40th anniversary mixes, you hear the background vocalists with Jim like on the quad album.
We should probably re-activate an old Doors string or start a new one, because there are other differences in Doors CDs, for example on the double CD "Best of the Doors" there is reverb on the beginning of "Love Her Madly" that I don't hear on other issues.
The database probably needs to reflect "remixed" on some Doors issues on some Doors songs.

Was this the B side of some copies of C&C or was it a mistake on Rhino's part? My (promo) has "(I'm) Taken" for a B side.
