Couldn't find a thread on this song...
I'm confused by the mono entries in the database for (I'm Not Your) Steppin'
Stone by the Monkees.
Here's an example...
(M) (2:30) &nb sp; Rhino 77744 More Of The Monkees (Deluxe Edition) (45
version and mono LP version but :11 longer than the 45 version)
(M) (2:17) &nb sp; Reader's Digest Music SSTC06791 The Ultimate Anthology
(Box Set) (45 version and mono LP version but faded :10 earlier than the
mono LP version)
I don't follow the "longer than" and "faded earlier" references. I thought the
45 version was just an early fade of the mono LP version and runs 2:19. So,
shouldn't the More of the Monkees version just be (Mono LP version) and
the Reader's Digest version just be (45 version)? There's no difference
between the mono mixes, is there?

I see the confusion, but the database notes are not
inaccurate. The 45 is an early fade of the mono LP
version. The notes are saying that the mono LP Version is
11 (or 10) seconds longer than the mono 45 version, but
"version" indicates that they are the same mix. I think
it's just a holdover from when the mono LP-length had not
yet been issued on CD.

I can clarify the comments a little further. The 45 is a fade of the parent mono LP pressing but the mono and stereo LP versions are different so I have to be specific and say 45 "version" and mono LP "version" to differentiate between the 45 and stereo LP "version". I have added the mono vinyl LP running time which is (2:29) to the song title description.

As Pat points out, the mono LP featured a longer version than either the single or stereo LP versions. According to Sandoval's book, this version appears only on "some original pressings", so that would imply later runs of the mono LP substituted the single version (my copy has the long version, so I can't verify). Its only appearance on CD is the "More Of" deluxe edition.
The mono and stereo mixes differ slightly, most notably at 1:10 - the stereo mix has chorus vocals leading into the verse, while the mono does not. The "Listen to the Band" box sports a stereo remix that reflects the variations of the mono mix, essentially creating a stereo single version.
