Two seperate promo 45s: The more common stereo/mono promo has a listed time of (4:34), but an actual running time of (4:28). The second promo 45: Adds the word (Edit) after the song title, says "DJ RESERVICE", has a listed time on both the stereo/mono sides of (3:37), but has an actual running time of (3:34), and deadwaxes of ZSS-164653-1F for stereo, ZSP-164652-1F for mono.

Interesting -- I did my own custom edit on this song a few months ago (not knowing there was a real dj edit) and mine came to 3:46, only 12 seconds longer. I wonder if I did the same edits but didn't fade as quickly.

To me, the (3:34) version sounded like just an early fade, Edison. The (4:28) version's fade is SO long, it appears to start before the (4:00) mark. For the short, sounds like they just moved the start of the fade up :30, and "faded to black" much more quickly. But your "same edits" could ALSO be correct, Edison, believe me, and I could be totally wrong - I just have no ear at all for this!

All previous stock 45s I had ever seen for this song included the longer, listed (4:34) version. However, I have recently located a second, shorter commercial 45. Like the shorter promo 45 version does, it also has a listed time of (3:37). But, unlike the promo, who's actual time is :03 shorter, this commercial copy also has an actual time of (3:37). Different deadwax than the short promo would seem to explain this (ZSS-164653-1A).

Ok, I give up. What did you enter to get it to work?

Doug, a good tip is to use as few words as possible, and use lower case. I've found that searching for a full title often doesn't work, especially if the title is in quotes. It's a picky search feature.

For this search I got both threads as my first result by typing only "gold" the first time and "fogelberg" the second time. Hope that helps.

I simply typed in the song title only (all lower case) in the search field and changed the default on the right from "message body" to "topic subject" to get this thread. As Mark said above "less is more."

"Fogelberg" is what I typed. It didn't work.

OK, now that I've found it (I can't let it go :) )...did we officially establish that the promo single is just a much earlier fade of the stock single/LP?

Now I'll have the Foundations song in my head all day ...
though that's a very GOOD thing :) It's one of my favorite songs of the '60s.

<like>

Thanks to John (and Aaron and Ron), here's the scoop. Three small edits of about seven or eight seconds each, and then an early fade.

First edit should be from (:48.85) to about (:56.19).
Next edit with what you have left should be from about (2:09.92) to about (2:17.45).
Next edit with what you have left should be from about (3:03.72) to about (3:11.08).
Cut everything after (3:34.42) and start the fade at around (3:13.55) to the end.

I'll have to compare this to my edit I made years ago, before I knew there was a promo edit.
