Two different promo 45s on this one: the first had a listed time of (3:53) on both sides, but is actually the same (4:05) version found on the stock 45. The second promo came in a few weeks later, in response to many stations chopping off the intro, and going right into the percussion/synth up-tempo part as the "start" of the song. Jive just did what much of radio was already doing, and made it "official". This 2nd promo 45 lists one side's time as (4:02), but is, again, the same (4:05) version found on the stock 45. The other side, stating "EDITED VERSION", has a listed and actual time of (3:50). This is the side featuring the chopped-off intro.

The 12" version is finally coming to CD on the Cherry Red
label.
Also has the 7" version of There'll Be Sad Songs (To Make You Cry)

jim,

does the promo 45 that starts with the percussion/synth up-
tempo part, have the echo carry over into the start like
the commercial 45 has...or does is start without any of the
intro echo overlapping it....

Ed, the echo carries over. I remember being disappointed that it was when I
first heard it, though. As I recall, some in radio were clamoring for a version
without the "a cappella title" opening, and were quickly appeased by Jive with
a simple, lazy cut-away and a re-press.....
