I once had an mp3 of it, but once I fashioned a 45 single edit out of it, I deleted it. It was just way too long for my taste.

Grant,

I heard of your Disco Lucy 45 edit, too. Could you send me one as well?

Heh! Soon as I find it! I created it from the mp3 and my beat-up 45. The reason for this is because the mp3 I got was messed up at the beginnings and ends. I EQ'ed it to match the vinyl.

Give me awhile...

I just sent it out. I didn't play the mp3 file before I sent it and noticed a bit of digital noise near the end that ie not on the original file. I can resend it if need be.

Ed:

This is in response to your orignal post inquiring about the DJ Disco Mix Vol. 2 CD. I don't have a copy of that disc but, judging by the CD title, it very well could be one of those discs where the tracks all segue into each other to foster a continuous dance mix.

Can anyone confirm how "Disco Lucy" appears on this CD?

What is the actual running time of this single? I have a
version that ends cold and runs (3:34).

This song brings back a good memory. When I started as Chief Engineer of a well known New Haven, CT AM rock station they had just replaced their air staff. The new Music Director discarded hundreds of 45's which I took home. This was one of those and there were multiple copies.

I visited the station I just left for the New Haven gig. It had a new owner and new PD. The PD was well known and reputed in NYC radio. In passing he told me he looked everywhere in NYC for this song. A few days later I left him two virgin copies under his door. He was ealted, to say the least.

Anyway, my 45 copy is Island label IS-078-A and IS 078-AX deadwax. Listed and actual time is 3:35 and has a cold ending. Thanks for bumping this thread and the memory it brought back.

Though the database still indicates that "Disco Lucy" is not available on CD, when you click on the title, it shows the one US CD it's on:

(S) (4:57) Beast 53452 D.J. Disco Mix Vol. 2 (all selections on this cd are segued together)

This CD is also mentioned in the posts above, but 2 things I'm not clear on:

Can the 3:35 single version be edited from this (or close to the single version)? And is this from a tape or vinyl?

Yes, the 45 can be edited from the long version.

Cool. Does anyone have this CD and can tell if they used a tape source?

Well, I bought and just received this "D.J. Disco Mix Vol. 2" CD. And I'm happy to report this comes from a tape source. So the one CD that has the song has it from tape! The CD was released 15 years ago, so I'm surprised there hasn't been more mention on this board. Anyway, as far as the "segue factor" goes, only the 1st 4 seconds and last note of the song have to be taken from vinyl - because other songs overlap with this song at the beginning and end. Luckily, I have an extremely clean vinyl source and will tack on the beginning and end from there, after I match pitch and EQ. Incidentally, this 12" mix, which is used for the CD, only requires 1 easy edit (moving the final chorus up to the 2nd to last chorus and leaving out the rest, so it wasn't even much work to edit this down to the single edit.)

BTW, Pat, I think you should update the database regarding this song - it indicates it's not available on CD, but it is. I know it's missing a few seconds, but you also include Jimmy Ruffin's "Hold on to My Love" in the database as being available on CD, but one CD is missing 30 seconds, and the other 2 CDs are re-recordings. So if that song is available on CD, so is "Disco Lucy", IMHO.

I have changed the Jimmy Ruffin "Hold On To My Love" status to "not on cd". I do not consider rerecordings, samples, edited or segued versions to be "on cd".

OK. Well, I'm glad you have a consistency between both songs. This also tells me to click on a song title if the database indicates it's not on CD. There may be a CD with a segued version or one missing a few seconds. I agree that if only a re-recording is on CD, the song should be listed as not on CD. Also if it's just a sample. And you have every right to consider segued versions this way - it's YOUR database - but I still like to know about these releases because I can still use the CD to get most of the song from master tape, instead of none of it.

Hah! I did the same thing years ago! I only had the 45,
but it was in bad shape, so I uh...downloaded the 12
version from Kazaa or something, and edited in the intro
and ending from the mp3 to the 45. I lived with that for
years.

Then, I decided to just re-edit that download to the 45
version. That worked for me for a few more years.

Then, a couple of years ago, I got a phono cart with a
Microline stylus, and, the trashed, styrene 45 played
perfectly with it! I decided I wanted a lossless version
of the song, and I didn't want to shell out $20 for a
double CD comp just for that one song. So I pulled out
the 45 and played it with the new cart. It was so clean
that I made a good needledrop of it and deleted the old
edit job.

Ahh ... well, the price has since gone down. I paid $2.67 for the double CD and that price is AFTER you add postage. That's why I was willing to take a chance on the CD in case this song was taken from vinyl. At that price, you don't have much to lose.
