the db states that the lone cd appearance of the song 'i
can take or leave your loving' by herman's hermits on the
'retrospective' cd is NOT the 45 version.....i have a
german import cd titled 'no milk today: herman's hermits
best' and it has a mono version which
sounds just like the vinyl 45 i have......does anyone
know
what the differences are between the vinyl 45 and the
version on the cd 'retrospective'?

Not sure what the difference(s) might be but I think the correct 45 version appears on the recent all stereo Herman's Hermits double disc set on the Bear Family label.

I can help out here.

Ed, the difference is in Peter's spoken part at the end
of the song. It differs between the UK and US 45
versions.

The CD "Retrospective" contains the UK 45 version. And,
actually Santi, the Bear Family 2-disc set in stereo is
also the UK 45 version. That's what was on the 8-track
session tape Ron mixed in 1991.

The spoken part starts about 1:55

In the US single he says:
Think I'm gonna miss ya, eh?
I'm not gonna miss ya.
<mumbles>
When it comes to ya lovin' I can take it or leave it.
Goodbye!

In the UK single he says:
So you think I'm gonna miss you?
You might think I'll miss you, but I won't
I won't even worry if you go
I might think about you today...
Goodbye!

Funny thing is, the "goodbye" at 2:21 is the same one in
both versions. For unknown reason for the US single they
mixed out all the words before "goodbye" and dubbed in
different wording. I shrug and say who knows why.
Either way, he made it pretty clear that he's just not
that into her. :-)
