I was reminded of this while listening to AT40 from April 1987 yesterday:
The 45 version of Lionel’s “Se La” opened with an a-capella female chant : “Se La, Se La”, absent from the LP version. Does this version appear on any greatest hits or compilation out there?

Motown Year By Year 1987 has the single version. There may be import CDs, too, but that is the only domestic CD with the version you're looking for.

My promo 45 has the listed (4:29), actual (4:27) version, same as the commercial 45, on one side - this is the one jebsib refers to in this thread's opening post, with the "acappella female chant" intro. But the other side of my promo 45 includes a version with a :31 second, mostly-keyboard intro, has a listed time of (4:20) and an actual time of (4:21). And, unlike the stock 45v, this side of my promo 45 was produced by Lionel Richie and James Anthony Carmichael.

Bizarre... on iTunes right now, you can find a copy of the album version of "Se La" on the remastered edition of Dancing On The Ceiling, running the expected 5:53. See it here.
You can ALSO purchase Lionel Richie singing "Sela" from Dancing On The Ceiling, not listed as remastered, running 3:38. (???) See that oddity here.
What gives? Anybody know? Is this a simple time misprint on the older version, or do they really have a chopped version of the song which doesn't match the 7"?
I'd love to know... but not enough to purchase it! :-D

The iTunes track labeled "Sela" is actually "Ballerina Girl" (which explains the time listed). The very next track is the LP version of "Se La" but it's labeled "Ballerina Girl."

"Se La" on the vinyl LP "Dancing On The Ceiling" ran (5:21), the listed time is "5:22" on the LP record label. (Motown 6158ML)
The reason I post is because 2 CD entries of "Dancing On The Ceiling" on the database indicates (5:49) and (5:53) each.

I attempted to buy this 45 version from the Motown Year by
Year 1987 album on iTunes but it is only available in the US
iTunes store. If anybody is able to help me get it, please PM
me. Happy Holidays!

Listening to the version on the "Dancing On the Ceiling" CD vs. the
vinyl LP
version. The CD version does indeed run about 29 seconds longer but
the
vinyl LP version is not just a faded version of what's on the CD. There's
definitely an edit.
I removed 4:27.613 through 4:56.920 from the version on the "Dancing
On
the Ceiling" CD version and it sounds like the vinyl LP version and runs
the
correct time. There are many many people who are better at edits than
I am,
so if somebody wants to double check my work, I'd appreciate it.
