I just thought I'd point out that Real Gone Music has
released a limited edition collection of all of Al
Stewart's U.S. singles in the single edits. It's limited
to 2500 copies.
I got mine today and the sound is really nice.

Unfortunately, when I went to the website to get the
hyperlink, it's listed as "sold out". Amazon had copies
when I looked last week. Maybe some are still there.

Did they get the correct edit on "Midnight Rocks" from 1980? The LP version and the 45 version both have the same run time, but the 45 is a unique edit where they insert the bridge in after the sax/horn solo and fade early.
Real Gone Music may end up repressing more copies if the demand is high. They have done that several times in the past with other CD releases (but no guarantees it will happen with this compilation).

Not having the 45 itself to compare to it, I can't say for
certain. But I believe it is the right edit, if for no
other reason that they actually mention the chorus being
repeated after the solo in the liner notes.

They have re-stocked it. I didn't see it there yesterday, but it's there now and I
just ordered it. It's $17.99 + shipping. It's also on amazon if Real Gone runs out
- but it's a bit more there, $24.99 right now.

The single version of "Paint by Numbers" is also a unique mix, with an additional lead guitar to make it sound even more hard rock.
And I'd love to finally get a proper digital re-release of the album by Al's band, Shot In The Dark. The copy that Rdeg released online in 2019 is just a very poor quality MONO needle-drop of the LP, played slightly too fast!
Speaking of which, the single of SITD's "Playing With Lightning" is an early fade of the album version.

I don't know anything about the "Rdeg" label, but whenever I've come across
albums I was looking for, from master tape, digitally, Rdeg has always been
horrible vinyl quality!
