My commercial 45 has a listed time of (3:20), but an actual time of (3:30).

re-create the 45 version?

I just acquired a white label Big Tree 16001 45 test pressing, with
long/short versions on it. Both sides are stereo. The listed (3:20), actual
(3:30) side (deadwax "ST BT 29349-1") exactly mimics the commercial 45
cited in my original post. The other side (deadwax "ST-BT 28556-1") has
a listed time of (4:12), but an actual time of (4:17). Database "LP version"
CD lengths range from (4:12) to (4:15). Interesting to know that the label
wanted to give stations the LP version as a second, late 1974 Top 40
airplay option.

The 45 version can't be created from the 4:14 LP version. The monologue is slightly different (and it's slightly shorter -- a self-edit), and there's a choppy guitar that's missing from the LP version right after the descending "...waiting outside the door" around the 2:35 mark of the 45.
