FYI, my promo CD single for this song (PRCD2516) also includes the LP version on it; here are the particulars:

1-Holding On (7" Edit) (listed & actual 4:15)
2-Holding On (LP Version) (listed & actual 6:14)

To make the 7" edit from the LP version,

First, remove 1:08 to 1:24.

Then, from what is left, remove 3:42 - 4:16.

Finally, from what is left, delete 4:15 to the end and fade to taste.

(Somebody else with the single would have to give specifics on the fade; since I use audio processing, I typically just start the fade about 20 seconds from the end, fading again at 10 seconds to the end, 5 seconds to the end, 2.5 seconds to the end, etc. until I get a typical sinusoidal fade.)
