My stock 45 has a listed time of (3:07), and an actual time of (3:08). All CD appearences appear to be the original (3:42) "Enlightened Rogues" LP version.

I am unable to detect a difference between the 45 and LP versions other than length.

Is this the same song that Van Morrison does?

Nope, two totally different songs. This one is a Dickey Betts original.

And IIRC, it was a single release at almost exactly the same time as Poco's "Crazy Love" (which is an entirely different song from the Allmans', but I don't know whether it's the same song as Morrison's).

Three "Crazy Love"s, three different songs. Rusty Young penned the Poco hit.

All three "Crazy Love" songs mentioned so far are different. The only charted version of Van Morrison's composition was Helen Reddy's version which hit #51 on Billboard in 1971.

Brian McKnight's 1995 version (which hit #45) was also a cover of the Van Morrison song, according to the Hot 100 Annual. However, it's listed as a separate composition in Top Pop Singles. Something to look into and update for the next edition, Paul! :)

Pat:
I thought I'd point out the Allman Brothers' "Crazy Love" appears on an additional CD not listed in the database. Here's all the relevant info:
(S) (3:43) Polydor 314547899 Best Of: 20th Century Masters - The Millennium Collection (LP version)
I imagine the song also appears on the digipack reissue of the aforementioned CD on Mercury B0007789.

FWIW, as far as I can tell, the 45 is an early fade of the LP.

Has anyone determined any differences between the 45 and the longer 3:43 version? Is it truly a version or LP length?

john, thanks for the tracks you sent yesterday....and yes, it looks as if the entry in the db for the song "crazy love" by the allman brothers should run 'lp length" and not "lp version" since the 3:43 version i have is just a fade to 3:07.......good catch....

Ed I have explained my definition of LP version before and I will do it again. In this particular example, the ending of the LP is completely different than the ending of the 45 and thus warrants an LP version designation. Yes you can fade the LP version to get the 45 version but there is a distinct difference in my opinioin between the LP and 45 other than length.
