My commercial 45 has a listed time of (3:11) and an actual time of (3:10). I only post this info because current database CDs for this song feature run times ranging from (3:04) to (3:09).

Thanks to you, Jim, the long "disco" 12" mix has become a personal fave! For anyone who hasn't heard it, there's a very long extended intro with a flute solo (sounds fruity, I know) and it has a little more of a thumping beat.

I notice there's a CD listing in the database where "Lotta Love" only runs 2:50 and contains the comment: (:19 shorter than the 45 or LP). I take this to mean then that the LP run time is 3:09 (or perhaps closer to 3:10 like Jim's reported 45 run time). Perhaps this LP info should also be stated in the database?

The Nicolette Larson disco mix [of "Lotta Love"], for example, is a really great version that I would not have known about if it hadn't been for Jim pointing it out to me several years ago. |

In addition to aaronk's post from 08 May 2008 upthread, I've cobbled together some other quotes regarding the (4:19) promo-only Jim Burgess 12" remix of this song from 1978-79 (Warner Bros. PRO-A-781) that have been made in other threads on Pat's board over the years, and thought I'd post my dilemma here under the proper "Lotta Love" thread instead...
First off, thank you, aaron, for posting about this original 12" remix several years ago! (Okay, and secondary nod to you, too, jimct, for first letting him know about it, lol.) The song was definitely a childhood fave of mine, and until I read about it here, I never knew an original 12" remix from the period existed. So after reading the rave reviews a few years ago, I found the (4:19) Jim Burgess mix on YouTube here (for those who still may not have heard it): NICOLETTE LARSON - "Lotta Love" (promo-only Jim Burgess 12" remix) (4:19) I'm w/ you 100% on this, aaron - loved it from the first time I heard it! In fact, I still play the YouTube video on my pc fairly regularly, since it's still currently my only source for this particular version of the song - but, I'd really love to find it on CD as well...
Yes, as Fetta said, the 12" mix was promo-only at the time, and as a result, the original vinyl 12" single (Warner Bros. PRO-A-781) fetches pretty big $$$ even to this day. In fact, here's a used copy that went for a whopping $248(!) on eBay all of three weeks ago, although $50-$75 seems to be the more typical price range: NICOLETTE LARSON - "Lotta Love" (U.S. promo-only 12" single) Frankly, I have no interest in spending that kind of money to obtain this remix, not to mention I've never been a huge fan of vinyl, anyway...
I'm posting about this now because I just discovered that a NEW Nicolette Larson collection titled Lotta Love: The Very Best of... has come out here in the U.S. (Varese Sarabande 302067333) - and sure enough, I just checked Pat's on-line db, and he's already added it! Unfortunately, according to Pat, all this new CD contains is the usual LP/45 version of "Lotta Love", clocking in at (3:09) - a major missed opportunity, IMO. :-( (Can these labels ever give us what we fans REALLY want?!?) Page for the CD on VS's official web site, complete w/ cover photo & track listing: NICOLETTE LARSON - "Lotta Love: The Very Best of..." (new U.S. CD)
So, my quest to find this elusive (4:19) Jim Burgess 12" remix continues! According to Pat's db, there's a (4:34) remix of "Lotta Love" on the 2004 V/A compilation titled What is Hip? Remix Project Volume One (Warner Bros. 48745), but my research indicates that that one's a recent creation, and NOT the original I'm seeking (*sigh*). Does anyone know if the original exists on an import CD??? (I don't care if it's a proper NL CD or a V/A compilation.) Thanks in advance...

Just found this note on a youtube listing:
"The original Jim Burgess Disco Stereo Remix can be found on Nicolette's "Very Best Of" Rhino cd - Japanese import - it's not listed on the outside cover art, but is on the inner jacket and on the Japanese translation sleeve"

Yeah, I actually found that same note posted by a member over at the Steve Hoffman forum - must be the same guy who has the YouTube listing. That was my only possible lead at this point, although I've yet to find proof. The Japanese edition of the Very Best of... CD on Rhino isn't even listed on Discogs (yet), although I've owned the U.S. edition (w/o the remix) for years now. Thanks for the assistance... :-)

Let me know if you find a hidden stash, aaron - I've been looking for a few weeks now, and it was because of those searches that I learned about the new U.S. collection from Varese Sarabande a few days ago. As long as it isn't $100, I'll definitely take one of those Japanese imports on Rhino as well (new or used)! :-)

I have a wav file copy of the "Disco Mix" from the Japanese CD, and it doesn't quite match the actual US promo 12". There is a strange edit on the intro, right after the flute solo begins, that removes about 8.5 seconds. I wonder if perhaps the tape was damaged and they decided to splice out a bad section.

Hmmm, definitely NOT good news. The YouTube video that I gave the link to above sounds pretty good to my ears, which had always led me to believe that the correct & complete (4:19) 12" remix was out there on CD SOMEWHERE - another source, perhaps??? Great info & excellent detective work, as always, aaron!

The YouTube video is taken from vinyl and de-clicked. I can hear record noise on the fadeout, and also the drum hits have been damaged by the automatic de-clicking software.
