MLK day doesn't work for me. I have other commitments. Any other
suggestions?

Not ideal for me either. How about Saturday January 20th...maybe late morning/early afternoon?

How about 12pm PST, 3pm EST on Saturday Jan 20th? Does this work for most
people?

Hello everyone.
I do not post on this site very often; I am more of a
reader trying to learn from the rest of you. However, I
will post what I sent to Aaron to request an invite for
tomorrow's tribute call to Mark. Mark did a lot of work
for me in the past, and he was forever knowledgeable,
kind, and a gentleman when I spoke with him on the phone.

Hello Aaron.
Please send me a link for tomorrow's conference call to
pay tribute to Mark Mathews. I am not a regular poster
to this site; I am more of a reader who tries to learn
from the rest of you who are much more technical than I
in that you know how to do A/B comparisons, clean up 45s
digitally, listen for mix differences, etc.
Having said that, Mark was a major reason why I didn't
have to be technical. He helped me with hundreds of
songs in my never-ending quest to find the commercial
mono mixes of many records from the 1960s and 1970s. His
work was nothing but perfection, and I spoke with him on
the phone many times, and he was nothing but kind and
considerate. I have bought everything he and Bill
produced for Eric Records and their sister labels,
including his fantastic instrumental series and the DES
discs they have released in recent years. I was in the
process of developing another list for him when he passed
away, but the past year has slowed me down because my
mother also passed away, and I have had to take time to
work on her estate.
Anyway, I will miss Mark terribly, and I would like to be
part of the call to honor him. May God have mercy on his
soul and grant him eternal rest and peace.
And Aaron, thank you for offering to put this call
together. I appreciate your kindness.
Sincerely,
Michael A. Ciavarella II (maciav)

That was a really nice tribute to Mark today. I really enjoyed hearing what
people had to say. And most importantly, I found it quite comforting when Bill
(Mark's boss) said that these last 10 years in California (since he started
working at Eric Records) were Mark's best and happiest times. He died much
too young, but I'm glad at least his last decade was his happiest.
He certainly accomplished a lot and did so much for so many people.

Sadly, I was unavailable to join in.
Is there any archive of it so I can listen to it, or watch
it?

I'm glad everyone was able to login and get together and
talk about two things we loved and love, Mark Matthews and
music. By the time I got to my desk yesterday, it was past
the time of the meeting. Cheers to Mark! There will never
be another one like him.

Hey gang,
Just finished watching the "Mark Mathews Memorial & Music Collector
Chat". I really wanted to attend it, but unfortunately, I had been out (my)
Saturday night for a few, and forgot to set an alarm to wake me up at 3am
(Thailand time) to attend (we are GMT+7). And with the iPhone being on
silent for the night, I guess there was no sound for the Calendar alarm (or it
was too quiet).
It was great putting faces and voices to many of our collecting crowd. Also
great that his sister Marilyn came and shared many Markie anecdotes about
Mark the person.
Hearing stories about what you guys did as youngsters and the various
things you did reminded me of the things I used to do, such as recording
songs right of the radio onto cassette, being thrilled when Napster
appeared, etc. And of course, your "how you met Mark" stories. I met him
around 1999 as well, and we sent each other burned CDs of music that was
not yet available on CD. Being from Canada, he had asked me for some
Canadian tracks, some of which are STILL not on CD! And Mark - as well as
the "oldies", he sent me a bunch of dance mixes (yep, he loved Disco!).
It's a shame about what can't be issued due to not being able to license it -
and the reasons why (money money money). I figure if it can 't be done
after making an attempt to do it "legally", then yes, get it to us who care to
appreciate this stuff - "under the table" as Bill put it. Isn't that how we got
the Instrumental 1963-1969 and 1970s CDs?
Finally, when Paul Haney asked the question about the warehouse full of
singles and Bill Buster replied "...half a million", my eyes (and ears!) perked
up. What a thrill it would be to attempt to digitize all the mono 45s from the
late 50s to the early 70s that are not yet (and many never will be...) on CD!
That is something I would do! Let's start with the Hot 100! Ahh, but A
dream, I guess.
Walt: If you've read this, please direct me to your YouTube channel. I looked
for it, but found a saxophonist!

Hello everyone.
I should have sent this weeks ago, but I have been away
from my fun sites on my laptop for several weeks because
of work.
I want to thank everyone who participated in the
conference call dedicated to Mark on January 20th. It
was a wonderful tribute, and it was wonderful to meet
some people I have seen post on this website many times,
and it was more special because it was in Mark's memory,
a truly wonderful man (I apologize for my overuse of the
word "wonderful," but I believe it is very fitting in
this case).
I especially want to thank Aaron for handling the
logistics and scheduling of the conference call. He
makes so many things possible on this website.
God's Blessings to All.
