I found the mono single edit of "Light My Fire" a few months ago on an out-of-print UK CD Single that was issued at the time Oliver Stone's "The Doors" movie was released.

It's Electra EKR125CD, 7559-66533-2. It contains:

1. Light My Fire (mono edit) 2:55
2. Light My Fire (LP) 7:06
3. People Are Strange (stereo) 2:10
4. Soul Kitchen (stereo) 3:30

And the UK CD is the correct single edit, unlike the US BackTrax CD single, which contains a stereo edit that doesn't quite have the right edit points.

Is this version slightly sped up like the 45? If it is - you have the "hit" from 1967...

By golly, it is! I never noticed that before. Thanks, Bob.

I'm listeting to the LOONG verison, and it';s starting to get inot the closing of the instrumental break (which is also slightly eidted like the four minutes takne out.)

I have the short verison from another site an dthe long version on LP and WinMX Mp3 download.

The long-avaible "2:52"* single on Elektra's SpunGold is the same as the single regaridng the frequently disucssed long imporvised trip-rock solo (there goes that four minute section!) BUT as in the ORIGINAL June 3,1967 hit single release much slower like the LP (only with four trippy minutes now gone!) and with the "Doo-Doo-DOOOOO" guitar solo intact (it;s cut out two p-laces more to nonexistence on the ORIGINAL single).

*"2"%2:3:06's more like it on the reissue.

Yes, the 45 is faster.

The original mono single edit with the original mono B side of Crystal Ship has been released as part of a new Rhino Digital 45 series. Available at I Tunes, Rhapsody, and I'm sure other music download sites. It sounds like the right version to me.

Can anyone post the actual time of the 45? I have 3
versions of the 45 edit, 2 in mono and 1 in stereo and
they are all at different speeds running 2:50, 2:52 and
2:53.
Thanks

Mark, the stereo 45 you got there is not the hit version.
It has the wrong edit and the wrong speed.

My mono 1967 Elektra 45 with the pink label lists the
time as
2:52.

My mono stock copy matches Ed's: 2:52 listed, 2:53 actual, same matrix number (Columbia Terre Haute pressing on yellow-gold & black Elektra "goddess" label.)

Thanks for timing info, guys.

For Hits Man, Re: the stereo edit, the one I have is not a released edit. The edit was done by a collector friend to match the mono edit.

Those sound like differently listed times of the exact same original 1967 (1968 reissue) hit.

BTW there are of course two additional edits in that original 1960s version after the edit of the "endless" CD/LP-only four minute organ solo when the guitar solo kicks in with an edit of just a few seconds, right after the 1st, then another rather equally brief edit, so that as anyone familiar with the original hit single knows, there's 3 edits. 1 big and 2 little in the original Light My Fire, as is known already here.

The stereo 1970s Spun Gold Elektra reissue,(3:06 despite the 2:52 listing) of course, just has the one splice out of the four minute part. In short, the same big chunk then intact as on the stereo and mono LPs.

However, I have, off of SoulSeek, an identical mp3 version with either the first several guitar parts otherwise on all versions snipped out after the long organ solo, or the parts just after like the original, but otherwise the guitar solo right before the organ intro resumes IS intact. In short, again, the same big long organ sequences, then a bit more of that or right after with another guitar edit a la the mono hit, but otherwise intact till the end. Same slower speed and stereo mix.

Thus, this "new" edit is 3:02 but listed at 3:06-stop at 3:02 before the "timer" reaches the end." I wonder where this two-edit stereo reissue came from? The actual reissue in stereo of the single edited from the stereo 7+ album version is with just ONE edit-the organ solo.

Of course there are other differences with the 1967 original, like being faster, (actually original speed, not speeded u;p) and the recognizably different mono mix with vocal louder than instrumental.

Also the long version has for years been labeled "6:30","6:50" but at a local WalMart I found the CD of the original 1967 The Doors with THE RIGHT TIME-7:10 !

:)

The Japanese Boxed Singles release (if you look it is
avaailable at Ebay and Amazon's Japan site, the mono 45
of Light My Fire is the correct version, higher pitch
making it sound faster. All the single releases are
correct even Touch Me, which sometimes the mono 45 edit
has been hard to fine. Worth owning.

The issue is now moot because of the new Singles set.

Just saw the singles set release after your post. Did
not know it was available. Thanks for the info.

Is the 2:52 an exclusive mono mix or can it be recreated in stereo from the 7:08 LP version (seeing as there appears no stereo 2:52 to match it)? I always wondered this...

The mono version sounds like a dedicated mixed to me. There is a speed difference so even if you do the edits from the 7:08 Lp version you need to speed it up to match the speed of the 45 and it still may not sound exact.

The Cd "The Doors Singles" has the original 45 version of "Light My Fire".

Interesting. In the 1980s, WLS in Chicago would play the song as an oldie, but would usually daypart the longer version at night and the shorter
version in the daytime (although sometimes the midday guy would play the long version just because he felt like it :) ). But it turns out what
they carted up in the 1980s was the reissue 45, not the original 45 (I assume the original 45 was what they played as a current--WLS played
everything off vinyl until about 1969 or 1970, and I don't remember if they ever carted up the original at any point).

Long way of saying it's why I always thought the (3:06) version was the original. How wrong I was.
