A #53 hit in 1980. Liked their version for the most part, even with some of the bizarre sound effects. Just wanted to know if anyone is aware of the Single Version existing anywhere on CD. I did check Discogs, and it doesn't seem to be on too many CD's. It's on the "Scrapbook" and "Icon" compilations, but Discogs doesn't list the running times for those. I have the Album Version on their "Ultimate Collection" and "Make Your Move" CD's, running about 5 1/2 minutes. The 45 apparently runs around 4 1/2 minutes. I don't know if the 45 is extractable from the Album Version, but the few times I've heard it, it sounded to me like a straight edit and no mix differences. Thanks for any information on this.

the single version has not been on any cd releases so far. furthermore,
that version and the dj promo edit cannot be edited down from the LP
version. IIRC there are a few crossfades or specific sound effects which
leads me to believe that it's a different mix, but i could be wrong...can
anyone verify?

Just to let you know, 'Happy Together' on the 'Scrapbook'
CD on Spectrum runs 5:28. -Bill.

I had the UK version of "Scrapbook" back when and it had
the single version of "Happy Together" as well as "Do
That To Me One More Time." (I later replaced this CD
when "The Ultimate Collection" was released.)

No, it's never been on CD. Neither has the single mix of
the B-side "Gentle Stranger," which has seagull and
ocean wave sound effects on the intro.
I've been meaning to tackle a single edit of "Happy
Together." I'll try to soon.

Do you recall if that was the version of "Scrapbook" that had the mostly Black cover and their names in big letters? There's 2 different covers on Discogs for the compilation - that one and one with pictures of trees and the side of a house.

I have the black cover. There's no reason to believe
they're not the same CD, though... they have exactly the
same track listing.

Yes, the one with the black cover. I recall my
disappointment with the single edits of each on the CD
since I preferred the album versions of both songs.

Brian, does your copy of "Scrapbook" have the longer Album Versions of those songs? If so, I guess it's possible that two different versions of "Scrapbook" with the mostly black cover exist, if the copy that Scanner had included the Single Edits.

Mine has the palm trees and beach house on the cover, and
I found the cover so meaningless I made my own from
Captain & Tennille 45 RPM picture sleeves! -Bill.

It has the single version of "Do That to Me One More Time," but it has the album version of "Happy Together."
This AllMusic listing for the black cover "Scrapbook" also lists a running time for "Happy Together" as matching the album version:
https://www.allmusic.com/album/scrapbook-mw0000454322
In addition, MusicBrainz has two different listings for "Scrapbook," and both list the running time for "Happy Together" as the LP running time:

Well, I just tried to create the single edit of "Happy
Together (A Fantasy)" from the album version, and it's
not possible. The big electronic flourish right before
Toni starts in with the first verse is not on the album
version at all.

Could a portion or portions from a clean 45 be pasted into
a digital copy to create a true 45 edit?

I'm a little confused. Are there 2 versions of the UK CD "Scrapbook"? Scanner says the version he had had the single mix/edit, but other people who have the UK "Scrapbook" CD say it has the LP version, that only "Do That To Me One More Time" is in its single version on that CD. So I'm just wondering if there are 2 printings of that CD. Scanner, are you sure it was both songs and not just "Do That To Me..." that had the shorter single versions on your CD? (I realize you don't have it anymore). But if yes, the single version very well may be on CD somewhere (on some copies).

I do recall how abrupt the edits seemed to me when I
first listened to the CD for both songs ("Do..." and
"Happy..."). I wish I still had the CD to confirm
this for you. It might be easier to track down a used
45 of "Happy" since the album version never had that
flourish anyway.
BTW - IMO, Casablanca really botched the single
selections from "Make Your Move" after "Do...." I
think "No Love In The Morning" or an edited "How Can
You Be So Cold" would have been more successful than
"Happy..." which was too bizarre and "Love On A
Shoestring" which was too languid for radio. "Baby
You Still Got It" could have also hit, but was a bit
too similar to "Do...." No wonder their next album,
"Keeping Our Love Warm," tanked effectively ending
their career.

Yeah, "Happy Together" was a poor choice for a single.
I've always thought "Baby You Still Got It" should
have been a single. It's not one of their best
albums.
Incredible to think that, just two years after having
a #1 hit with "Do That to Me One More Time," they
couldn't get a recording contract in America. Their
final album (not counting their '90s Christmas album)
"More Than Dancing" was released in New Zealand only.
A shame, since I think the duet with Bobby Caldwell,
"Come to Me," could have been a hit. Glad the album
was eventually released on CD.

Yeah I only found out about their last '80s album when I found out here that it was released on CD (probably from Brian). I didn't know of the album's existence at all and thought when I bought the boxed set of their albums, that I had them all. Again, I'm so thankful for this board and all the knowledge shared! There were some good songs on that '82 album and I wouldn't have even known about it. I think the album came up in conversation here because one of C&T died at the time.

Something weird happened. I tried to update an old post
in this thread with new info, and it didn't touch the
original post but posted my edit in a new post... and
won't let me delete it.
