Got to finally hear the 45 version. I can hear the edit in the intro, which is kinda unfortunate because I'll always know it's there, and I'll never be able to unhear it.

The 45 is an easy recreation from the LP version. I edited it down from the album version on the very inexpensive CD Greatest Hits Ten Years And Change 1979-1991 (1991). Editing instructions, using the timing from GHTYAC:

Segment 1:
If you divide the intro into fourths, this is basically the first fourth of the intro, about 8 beats long
Extends from 0:00.0-0:04.3 of both the 45 edit and the LP version.

Remove the 16 beats from 0:04.3 to 0:11.8 of the LP version, which is about half of the intro, taken right out of the middle.

Segment 2:
Is the last fourth of the intro, extends through most of the song, ends on a downbeat.
Extends from 0:04.3 to 3:25.9 of the 45 edit.
Extends from 0:11.8 to 3:33.5 of the LP version.

Remove the 16 beats from 3:33.5 to 3:41.1 of the LP version.

Segment 3:
Is 48 beats long, and extends into the LP version'sfade.
Extends from 3:25.9 to 3:48.8 of the 45 edit.
Extends from 3:41.1 to 4:04.0 of the LP version.

Fade:
24 beats long
Extends from 3:37.4 to 3:48.8 of the 45 edit.
Extends from 3:52.6 to 4:04.0 of the LP version.

Your mixdown will run 3:48.8, with edits at 0:04.3 and 3:25.9, and a 24-beat fade from 3:37.4 to 3:48.8.

I should point out that the LP version is also on Madacy's Rock On 1981 Bette Davis Eyes (1998). It uses a different analog transfer than GHTYAC, but has roughly the same sound quality. Both sound good. I chose to give editing instructions from GHTYAC because it's much easier to find.

Avoid the version on Simitar's Number Ones Classic Rock (1998), because it's too loud and clips a lot.
