Diane Ray...

A friend of mine just sent me a mono version of this track with a double-
tracked lead vocal. He's sure it is the 45, whereas the stereo version is
single-tracked.

I have a dub if anyone wants to listen, but it looks like another 45 version
has been uncovered and a database update needed. I searched for anything
on this track, but came up empty.

Great catch, David!

The big tip-off comes as Diane sings "Man, oh, man!": She doesn't sing those three words exactly alike between the double-tracked vocals on the 45. No such problem on the stereo mix.

The stereo mix really bugged me the first time I heard it. Poor little Diane was so distracted by her lifeguard fixation that she failed to notice she was drowning in the reverb chamber. The stereo mix sounds all wet - literally and figuratively - when folded down or broadcast on AM. The mono mix on the 45 is less wet and much punchier.

If you can find a clean copy, go for the vinyl green-label DJ 45 over the styrene black-label stock.

We need to find out which version is included on the mono LP of Diane's "The Exciting Years". Anybody have a copy that can step up with this information?
