I'm looking for three Christmas songs released in the 80s, or rather I'm looking for them on CD (or iTunes, etc.). I have copies of the vinyl singles and all three sound like they were played with a wheat stalk rather than a record needle, they're so gritty.
1) Willis "The Guard" & Vigorish - Merry Christmas In The NFL (1980, Handshake Records)
This one actually charted, until (allegedly) Howard Cosell started asking stations to stop playing it.
--
2) Billy Crystal - The Christmas Song (1985, A&M Records)
The best & the worst of Billy Crystal's impressions, all in one holiday record. Doesn't appear to have charted, but it is quintessential 80s.
--
3) Max Headroom - Merry Christmas Santa Claus [You're A Lovely Guy] (1986, Chrysalis Records)
My copy of this sounds like a copy of a cassette transferred to vinyl, scrubbed with sandpaper, and then recorded back to cassette... and it's not like this is a particularly pretty song in the first place!
--
If anybody knows if digital copies of the original tapes of these songs have escaped the vaults before somebody came to their senses and destroyed the masters, I'd sure love to know so I could get copies.
The battered versions I'm currently playing are more torture than the original recordings...
Thanks in advance for your help.

Gene, I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news here. But exhaustive research
has just determined that none of those 3 songs has ever appeared on a
legitimate CD - anywhere...
A few suggestions, to upgrade your current "worn like sandpaper" copies:
-I noticed that "Merry Christmas In The NFL" is featured regularly, in
December, on Ron's "Crap From The Past" weekly oldies show. Send out a
PM, perhaps?
-Near mint 45 copies are currently available on eBay:
"Merry Christmas In The NFL" (stereo on both sides promo copy) - $5.00
"The Christmas Song" by Billy Crystal (stock copy - but both the stock and
promo 45 copies included the "short" (3:33) and long (5:22) versions -
$5.00
-Max Headroom - a "Buy It Now" stock copy is $16, but an auction ending
in 4 days currently has no bids, and is at $6.99.
-I do personally own mint promo 45 copies of all 3 of them as well, but I
am currently unable to dub/shoot 45s out. A friend has been kindly
helping me out, when very rare pieces are involved, but I'd rather not
impose on him here, given how readily available high-quality 45 copies
are on-line.
Good luck, my friend!

That's good info, Jim... I'll give eBay a try! Thanks for the research. I couldn't turn up anything either, but it's always good to have a second set of eyes look as well.
