It has been called to my attention that there is a difference between the 45 and LP version of Dr. Hook's "Cover Of Rolling Stone". This difference occurs from 1:41 to 1:43 where on the LP version (Sloppy Seconds) the fake audience applause is very noticeable on the LP (Sloppy Seconds and The Essential for example) but very subdued on the 45 version which appears on the Rhino Have A Nice Day Volume 10 cd. So I would like a vote as to whether this should be referenced in the database as 45 "mix" or "version".

I vote mix.

If the two recordings are identical other than the volume level of the applause from 1:41 to 1:43, then I think I'd be inclined to label this as a 45/LP "mix".

Please listen before you vote as there may be no audience applause at 1:41.

I reviewed the song on the 2 sources I have at the moment,
Super Hits and AM Gold 1973. On the Super
Hits collection, I clearly hear the applause. On the AM
Gold CD, I hear very little, if any, applause at the 1:41-
1:43 point.
Not sure what the rules of the forum, but if the applause
is almost absent, wouldn't that be a version difference?

Ok, I've now listened closely to "The Cover of 'Rolling Stone'" on my copy of the Have a Nice Day Volume 10 CD and I don't hear the audience applause at 1:41. So I will now go on record to say this qualifies as a 45/LP "version", in my opinion.

I definitely hear the overdubbed audience applause loud and clear at 1:41 on the Dr. Hook Greatest Hooks CD (Capitol 95766).

The applause certainly is not to be heard on the Rhino HAND
disc as Todd points out. Whether you call it
subdued or completely missing, if that makes it a
version difference then I'll go with that. Regardless, I
never noticed this difference until now. Thanks Pat for
pointing it out.

I can't hear any applause on the Rhino HAND cd (although it is difficult to tell due to the comparatively louder guitar there - my ears can't pick up whether or not it is mixed in); therefore, my vote would be a version difference and not a mix difference. The applause is certainly loud & clear on the "Greatest Hooks" cd, and the guitar is dulled a bit.
