Does anybody remember hearing Bruce Springsteen's "Trapped" (live, from the "We Are The World: USA For Africa" album) on the radio in '85?
I ask because my local top-40 station played it, but cropped all of the crowd noise (7 seconds' worth) at the beginning.
I'm sure they simply cued the record past the crowd noise... but I'm wondering if this was standard for stations at the time.
(The song reportedly went to #1 on the Billboard Top Rock Tracks charts.)

"Trapped" got a ton of airplay on my local rock station and I did hear it a few times on the Top 40 stations. I also played it on my college radio station at the time. I don't remember cueing past the opening crowd noise.
BTW, the song DID top Billboard's Rock Tracks chart for 3 weeks in May of 1985.

"Trapped" received heavy airplay on Twin Cities top 40 WLOL in '85. "Trouble In Paradise" by Huey Lewis &
the News and "4 The Tears In Your Eyes" by Prince also got a lot of airplay off of the "We Are the World" LP as well.

I can't find it as a B-side, only as tracks on various bootleg Springsteen compilations & the USA For Africa album.
I remember Prince's "For The Tears In Your Eyes" video, but can't remember if the song actually played much on the radio around here.

Resurrecting this thread briefly...
Was this song EVER released on a 7" single? Discogs doesn't list it anywhere as a single, and that really shocks me...

Gene:
I've never seen "Trapped" on a 7" single as an a-side or b-
side. I bet if it had been an a-side it would have sold
and/or charted well. I heard it on south Florida radio
quite a bit back in '85.

I heard it a lot in Chicago as well. The Essential
CD version trims out about four of the opening seven
seconds of crowd noise.

If you look hereyou'll notice May 11th, 1985 it DID go to #1 on the mainstream rock charts.
I don't find it hitting the Billboard Hot 100, likely because it wasn't released as a single. (SEE: Madonna - Into The Groove.)
KELI in Tulsa pounded the snot our of it in '85, and they were top 40 at the time.
Thanks for the info!!

And as Ed mentioned, it got lots of airplay in NY. All the
rock stations of course, but most notably Z100 played it a
ton.
Bruce was at his height, so i have no doubt this would
have been top 10 had a single been released.
