My commercial 45, confirmed as A&M 871, has a listed time of (3:58), but an actual time of (4:11). Current database CD timngs for this song (all stereo) range from (4:06) to (4:08). My 45 is styrene, with deadwax of "A+M 1334-1". Does anyone happen to own a promo 45 for this one? I wonder if there was possibly a shorter version sent radio's way, to increase their late 1967 chances for airplay...

Jim, I don't have a promo copy, but my stock copy, which also has a listed time of (3:58) runs an actual (4:09). It's a west coast Monarch pressing, with matrix number "A+M 1334 RE-2-16" and delta number 67908.

Might there be a mix difference here?

I thought I had a promo copy however mine is only a stock issue (styrene - it is mono, also). Deadwax reads (handwritten) A&M 1334-2, there are also separately machine stamped J (just to the left of the handwriting) and a machine stamped 3 opposite the handwriting. It has an actual time of (4:11) but the fadeout is long and between 4:07 and 4:11 is all but overpowered by the groove noise on my 45.

I have both a promo & stock copy of this song and other than the promo copy being in stereo do not notice a difference between the two. I'll verify this when I get a chance.

I got the promo copy during the song's chart run, and only had a mono turntable at the time...I recall hearing a slight pre-echo when playing it. This pre-echo is not there when folding down a stereo cartridge.

I found a promotional copy of this single in a record store on Saturday so I picked it up (the price was right -- $2).

Both sides have a listed time of (3:58) and have an actual run time of (4:11). As with my stock copy, the last few seconds are very quiet on the fade out (but this is a much quieter pressing than my stock copy).

On the first side, the matrix numbers read: A&M-1334-15 followed by the monarch symbol and delta 67908.

The second side has a matrix of: A&M-1334-16 followed by the monarch symbol and delta 67908.

my commercial 45 issued as a&m 871 states the run time as
3:58 but actually runs 4:08 and is identical, except for he
mono/stereo difference, to the 'best of' cd version....my
run out groove etching is 'A+M 1334-1'....no delta symbol
at all.....
