I brought this up in a non-Partridge Family post, so I'm bringing it up here:

I hear an anomaly on the Partridge Family's "I Think I Love You" on headphones, in the 1st verse. It's a repeated thump that I don't think was intended to be in the music (like somebody bumping a mic). I never noticed it on vinyl, on speakers. It wasn't until I heard it from a CD source on headphones, early '90s, that I noticed the weird anomaly.

To be specific, the loudest occurence is after the world "brain" at the 0:17/0:18 mark, and to a lesser extent over the word "something" at 0:15. Does anyone else hear it? and know what is going on there?

I first heard it on a Razor & Tie '70s compilation CD, and the next CD I bought with the song, had it as well. But I haven't checked all CDs. (I just kinda assumed it was on everything, including the master.)

I just checked a bunch of CDs with this song, and I hear the "thump" at 0:14 at the end of the word "up," at 0:15 on the word "something," and at 0:17 on "brain." Those "thumps" are on all copies with one exception. On Billboard Top Rock N Roll Hits 1970, the first two "thumps" are present, but the last one on "brain" is not. It could be that the mastering engineer caught that particular "thump" (since it's the most obvious of the three) and spliced it out.

I do hear the thumps, but they are very faint (I never use headphones). I can very easily ignore them as they don't jump out at me like the "Drive" splice.
