my commercial 45 issued as arista 0459 states the run time
as 3:40 but only runs 3:47.....the cd version from
"greatest hits 1979-1990" has the channels flipped....the
45 has the beginning piano intro in the left channel and
the greatest hits cd has the piano starting in the right
channel....

1979's "Dionne" is being re-released as a remaster with the single versions of "Deja Vu", as well as the non-Top 40 song "After You"

The "Deja Vu" 45 simply has an intro that's half as long. Does anyone know what was edited out of "After You" album version? I wasn't aware there was a single edit until a month ago when I read about this release.

I think there's more to it than that. The 45 runs (3:49), the LP runs (5:06). As I recall, both versions have an instrumental break that mirrors the intro. But it's extended (with some extra vocals) on the LP version (you are correct that the intro is also longer)--I think the break is three times longer on the LP than it is on the 45. Might also have a longer fade on the LP.

Aren't both versions (45 and LP) already on CD?

Yes, I have the single version on Dionne's "Essential". I'd forgotten there were those other differences in the sv as well. It sounds like the single version can be edited from the album version, though - not a different mix.
