What is the difference between the LP and 45 version of this? I see they run the same length…

Good question... Either I never noticed the "LP version" comment or it was recently added. I always thought the two were the same, and I've looked this one up before.

I checked my original 45 (Rolling Stones 21004) against the
version on the CD Tattoo You (Rolling Stones 40502), and there
aren't any differences in editing, vocals, sax solo or percussion that I
can tell. So unless there's something to the 45 mix that isn't on the
CD, I think they're the same version.

My 45 is edited and runs appr. 3:36. I don't remember the exact edits, but there's definitely one in the intro and another in the middle of one of the sax solos.

so,
I see the database has been updated (LP version removed), but do we have another case of two 45s, as reported by Roscoe? Seems one is the same as the LP and the other would be a "short 45 version".

Roscoe, is your 45 a promo or commercial copy? The database states that DJ copies run (3:35).

It looks like a commercial copy. It has a yellow label with the "tongue" logo.

Does anybody know the edit points to take the LP version to the 45 version?
(Video edit runs 4:23 for whatever that's worth.
YouTube: Rolling Stones - Waiting On A Friend video
I assume it's just a slightly early fade. I could totally see fading at 3:35.)
I just did a "guess" edit, where I lopped off most of the intro (there's a VERY audible edit in the album version; that's where I started mine), took out about 8 seconds of sax solo to being the vocals closer together, & then faded early.
I'll be curious to find out how close I got to the real thing!

From memory, the intro is VERY edited. At least 2 or 3 edits. I don't recall the exact points, though.

Delete, delete, delete... someone must have sent me the real single edit in the past, because it exactly matches this video; ignore previous content of this post.

Gene, I think I sent it to you a long time ago. Mine was edited to match the promo 45, though. Was it ever determined that an edit exists on a commercial 45?

My commercial 45 is the edited version (3:35). It has a
matrix number of RS 21004 (apparently the same number as
the full-length commercial 45 noted above); yellow label
with the "tongue" logo and the B-side is "Little T&A". The
running time on the label is correctly listed as 3:35.

Aaron, you did send me a copy. I'm an idiot. I put my copy into Adobe Audition alongside the video and realized they were nanosecond-to-nanosecond identical.
We've now confirmed there was a commercial 45 with the edit; wonder why it's never shown up on CD?

My commercial 45 has an actual and listed time of (4:32) with the same b-side on the same label (RS 21004). In case this makes a difference: ST-RS-40313-1 followed by machine stamped Masterdisk RL then handwritten 1-35M1-2 (the 5 may actually be the letter S). The picture sleeve shows Mick and Keith sitting on the steps straight out of the video for the track. I'm guessing Roscoe's 45 edit is not as common.
