My commercial 45, confirmed as Capitol 4898, has a listed time of (2:49),
but an actual time of (2:42). The 45 is different from the LP version in that
each of the 3-4 times the word "damn" appeared, it was removed from the
lyric line, "and I don't give a (damn) about a greenback dollar" for the single.
Curiously, just about all current database CD appearances for the
"uncensored LP version" run (2:49), so it appears that Capitol used the LP
timing as the listed 45 length. That was incorrect, because obviously, editing
out the word "damn" several times had shaved some seconds off of the 45's
length.

Jim, the timing difference stems from the 45 fading out prior to the final nine-strum cold ending on the LP version.
The "damn"s weren't simply edited out; they were replaced with a guitar strum of the same length as the word they were replacing. Hence, "I don't give a (strum) about..."

Thanks, John. As Johnny Carson often said, "I did not know that!"

The best edit/censorship job ever on a Top 40 hit.
