Does anyone have a commercial 45 copy of Tower of Power's "Don't Change Horses (in the Middle of a Stream)"? All CD appearances of this song run 4:40-4:42, but Joel Whitburn reports in Pop Singles Annual that the single run time is 3:02. Is the 45 an edit, early fade, or different mix than the version/length running 4:40-4:42, or is this a case where the time printed on the 45 label is way off?

Because a number of new members have joined the forum since I posted the above message last September, I thought I'd bump it back up to the front of the line to see if anyone may have an answer yet.

Todd, I only have a promo on this - mono side has a listed and actual time of (3:06). Stereo side has a listed and actual time of (3:02), and I've always concluded was the same as the stock 45 mix, since it jibed with Whitburn's listed time. Not a personal fave of mine, so the stock 45's not real high on my want list. PM me if this audio would possibly prove helpful in your research on this...

My commercial copy runs (3:02) and is an edit of the LP version.

... And I thank you, Pat and Jim!

I wonder how many more 45 versions/lengths and DJ edits are still remaining out there for all of us to uncover? :-)

my commercial 45 for the tower of power song "don't change
horses (in the middle of a stream)" issued as warner 7828
states the run time on the label as 3:02 but actually runs
3:03 and is an edit of the full length 4:41 cd/lp
version.....thanks john for re-creating the perfect edit!!!
