Jim reports his commercial 45 copy of Stephen Bishop's "On and On" has an actual run time of 3:03, not 3:00 as stated on the record label. Most of the song's CD appearances run at least several seconds shorter.

To Todd:
Please don't forget that there are two different mixes of this tune (LP & 45).
45 mix has cascading reverb on Stephen's lead vox & a guitar overdub; Lp mix is missing the overdub & has a drier lead vocal.

Wow, I wasn't even aware of these version differences, Andy! The database currently does not indicate which version(s) are available on CD. When I have an opportunity, I will go through my music library and see if I can determine which versions I have.

My copy of Rhino's 'Best of Bish' has the 45 mix.
My copy of MCA's 'On And On - The Hits Of Stephen Bishop' has the LP mix.
P.S. Overdub (or lack thereof) starts at approx 1:48.

I checked a couple of other CDs in my collection containing "On and On". Based on Andy's descriptions, my copy of Sessions Presents Everlasting Love (Sessions/Warner Special Products OPCD-4522) and Singers/Songwriters/70's Greatest Rock Hits (Priority 53706) both contain the LP version.

For what it's worth, I found a quick way to identify a key difference between the 45 and LP version of Stephen Bishop's "On and On"... The 45 version contains maracas during the intro, while the LP version does not.
