Most of my 1973 & 1974 stock 45s were stolen back in 1986, from a
"lock-up section" I had at a station I worked at back then. Since then, I
have been able to replace 99% of them, but not all. As a result, the # of
my 1973 "stock 45 stragglers" are higher than 68-69-70-71-72s was;
(9). 2 others are "AWOL" right now, so I've also included them. Can anyone
who may own a stock 45 help us out, and provide mono/stereo details
for:

***Al Green--"Call Me (Come Back Home)" (mono; thanks, Kent!)***
***Bread--"Aubrey" (stereo; thanks, Paul Haney!)***
***Seals & Crofts--"Hummingbird" (stereo; thanks, John!)***
***Marvin Gaye--"Come Get To This" (stereo; thanks, Kent!)***
***Barry White-"I've Got So Much To Give" (stereo; thanks, Paul Haney!)***
***Dells--"Give Your Baby A Standing Ovation" (mono; thanks, Kent!)***
***Joe Stampley--"Soul Song" (stereo; thanks, Kent!)***
***B.B. King-"To Know You Is To Love You" (mono; thanks, Kent!)***
***Persuaders-"Some Guys Have All The Luck" (stereo; thanks, Paul
Haney)***
***Bette Midler--"Friends" (stereo; thanks, Paul Haney!)***
***Manhattans--"There's No Me Without You" (stereo; thanks, Paul
Haney!)***
***Spinners--"One Of A Kind (Love Affair)" (censored v) (stereo; thanks,
Kent!)***

-1973 is now all set; many thanks, all!!!!!!

Once Warner Bros./Reprise started issuing stereo singles in late '71/early '72 seemed pretty consistent. Other than Fleetwood Mac's "Over My Head", I can't think of another mono stock single on those labels (promos are another story).

Steve, while I 100% concur with you that Todd/I could conclude with a very
high level of confidence that all 1973 WB stock 45s were issued in stereo (or
for several other major labels, like Columbia and RCA), we have nonetheless
opted to remove any/all guesswork, and still go to the extra bother of
listening to each any every 45 for confirmation. For instance, the 1973 stock
45 for WB's "Dueling Banjos" happens to have been put out in mono, despite
being on the same WB label as the "Hummingbird" 45 John helped us out
with, info-wise, last night. Had we simply assumed stereo since it was on
WB, we would've been wrong on that one, and quite likely on some others as
well.

Although the "Over My Head" stereo 45 mix is quite narrow, it does have some channel separation. Both the stock 45 and the stereo side of the DJ 45 contain this "narrophonic" stereo single mix. This is the case on my Columbia-pressed styrene Terre Haute and vinyl Santa Maria stock 45 copies (the latter of which was mastered by Bernie Grundman.)

Al Green Call Me (Come Back Home) is mono. The short second version of One Of A Kind (Love Affair) on 45 is also Stereo. And found on Second pressings onward. Joe Stampley Soul Song is Stereo on stock copies.

It is great that these lists are being prepared via listening to each 45 and not
relying on the printed label nor on the trend at the time for a particular label,
since there were always exceptions. I also have that "Dueling Banjos" 45,
and, in mono.

Marvin Gaye "Come Get To This" is Stereo. Heard a copy yesterday. It's now mine.
