From the Whitney Houston LP, final cut 'Hold Me' duet with Teddy Pendergrass. At 0:18 I hear what sounds like a glitch. Would this be an example of a tape dropout? How can something like this get overlooked and mastered into the final product!?
This version runs 5:58 which is rather long for airplay. Was a 45 or DJ copy ever released? I'd like to compare if anyone has any info.

The 45 was an early fade, about a minute shorter. According to the wav file I made, it's 5:06. So I'm assuming someone told me that was the length of the single version.
As for the dropout, this recording was produced by Michael Masser, who also produced (on Whitney's next album) "Didn't We Almost Have it All", which has HORRIBLE vocal distortion throughout much of the song. If Michael couldn't hear that painful distortion, it wouldn't surprise me he didn't notice a little dropout in "Hold Me".

Just received a copy of the commerical 45
Asylum Records 7-69720
Teddy Pendergrass/Hold Me bw Love
4:53 listed, 5:18 actual
And yes, it is an early fade. The fade starts at 5:03 right till 5:18
I should also note their is no glitch/tape dropout at :18 in. It sounds more crisp than the LP Version.

There's a promo 45 on eBay right now. The label scan says
"Fade of LP Version" with a listed time of either 3:25 or
3:35.

By the way, the 45 version of "Hold Me" is on the Teddy Pendergrass CD called "Bedroom Classics."
