pat

i reviewed my 45 versus the cd version from "very best of" and as far as i can tell it's just an earlier fade to 4:19

can you tell me if there is a difference between the two??

The only difference is that the LP version tracks into the next selection and the 45 fades.

Pat:

If the only difference between the LP and 45 of "(I've Been) Searching So Long" is that the 45 fades early, then shouldn't the difference be described as one of length and not version? Otherwise, it seems to me the song would have to be required to track into the next selection of whatever CD it appears on in order for it to truly be considered "LP version" (which I don't think would be an accurate classification).

In my opinion, if a 45 can be derived simply by fading out its LP counterpart early and there are no other discernable differences in the recording up to the point where the 45 concludes its fade, as appears to be the case with "(I've Been) Searching So Long", then I'd say this should certainly qualify as 45 length. Do you agree?

No I don't agree Todd because the fade point would have to be different from the 45 to LP when the LP tracks into the next track.

Where does the fade begin, Ed? I might want to try to create the single (of course, fades never were my specialty).

I agree with Todd; it makes more sense for the comment to read "length" since it's just the LP version fading early. Regardless of whether or not the LP version tracks into the next selection, there are no other differences.

The single just fades about 12 seconds sooner than the LP version ends.

I timed it and it starts to fade at 4:00.
