Very disheartening news. So does this mean there's no place to go now to purchase lossless downloads by major record label artists?

That's correct.

I was able to get the "Boom Boom Pow" single by Black Eyed Peas a few weeks ago, but can't purchase anything else as I only have 34 cents in my account and it won't let me add any more money. I've had "Fire Burning" by Sean Kingston sitting in my basket for three weeks, and I can't purchase it.

Then again, there might be some hope. In an interview published Friday, the CEO of MusicGiants says he hopes the company can emerge from bankruptcy protection this summer:

The thing is, if MusicGiants is unable to start offering Warner and Universal label material again, then their online store will remain a shell of what it once was (though I realize having some major label material available as lossless downloads is better than none at all).

Well, it looks like MusicGiants website is offline right now and, who knows, maybe for good. I'm kicking myself because they had the mono 45 versions of the Box Tops' Top 40 hits available as lossless download purchases, despite the fact that the band's Sundazed CD releases containing these rare tracks are all now out-of-print and fetching very high prices online. The reason I didn't purchase these tracks sooner is because I could no longer even play any of my existing MusicGiants purchases because I was suddenly being required to verify some stupid license that I didn't know how to provide!

Does anyone know if these Box Top mono 45 versions and mixes (i.e. - "Choo Choo Train", "I Met Her in Church", "Sweet Cream Ladies, Forward March", "Soul Deep") can be purchased as lossless downloads elsewhere? Also, it is possible to playback my existing MusicGiants files now that they've been coded with this infuriating new licensing restriction?

The licensing restriction probably isn't new. There should be a button that says "update license" somewhere, but maybe it was on the HDGiants website, which will do you no good now. All it does is send a signal to your computer that it's okay to play the track, basically. I've had to do it a couple times.

HDTracks has Sundazed as a label, but they don't have the Box Tops albums for some reason. Maybe you should send HDTracks an email and request them.

Otherwise, use www.worldcat.org to see if any libraries in your area have them.

Well, this intersting news out of the blue today. I finally got a response from the founder of HDGiants (aka MusicGiants) to my email of, oh, a year ago. He said:

Quote:
The assets of MusicGiants were purchased by a firm in LA that is working on a re-launch of the site. I am sure that they will be contacting all past customers of their progress.

That doesn't help me with the three tracks I downloaded and apparently never played, because they don't have "usage rights," and I can't download them... fortunately they were nothing crucial and are a pindrop the the several hundred tracks I purchased from MusicGiants.

But hopefully we will see a new lossless downloads site coming in the near future.

A tip for Mono Box Tops singles. Buy Flashback 45 reissues, many are sourced from original metalwork.
