Will one of these releases finally include the 45 version of "Sometimes a Fantasy" and the 12" version of "Tell Her About It"?......... Hopefully.

Don't forget about the unique 45 mixes of "The Entertainer", "Moving Out" and "Keeping The Faith"!

But something tells me not to get our hopes up. There have been numerous remasters, compilations and box set opportunities to get these rarities issued on CD and they have come up empty every time.

The My Lives box was a particular disappointment since the focus appeared to be on rare and unreleased material...but even that set contained an alternate remix of "Keeping The Faith" rather than the 45 version.

yeah, while it would be nice to see these alternate mixes included, it's probably as likely as seeing the 12" remixes of Dancing in the Dark, Born in the USA and Cover Me included as bonus tracks on a Springsteen reissue...

The new US single-disc Billy Joel compilation CD "The Hits", which was released yesterday, doesn't even contain "Keeping the Faith" or "Sometimes a Fantasy", so their 7" versions certainly aren't on it. I'm surprised the CD doesn't even include "Just the Way You Are" or "Uptown Girl", #1 in many countries (and I think even in the US in Cashbox or R&R), or "She's Always a Woman", but that's another story.

At least the 12" mix of "Tell Her About It (which Fetta mentioned wanting above) is available on CD (an import CD single). And the 12" mix of "Keeping the Faith" is on the box set.

So I think the only Billy Joel stuff we're missing now are:

Keeping The Faith - 7" mix
Sometimes a Fantasy - 7" mix
Movin' Out - 7" mix
The Entertainer - 7" mix

I think the first two would be the most important to get released, as they are substantially different. For "Movin' Out", it simply means we have the version with the motorcycle overdub and are missing the version without it. (Not a biggie in my book, and I actually think the motorcycle sound is a very dramatic effect showing that Billy IS indeed moving out - I never understood why they took it OUT for the single mix.) And for "The Entertainer", it's missing a steel guitar overdub that lasts for a second or two at a spot where they do an edit.

The article does state the following:

"2011 marks the 40th anniversary of the release of Billy Joel's first solo album, Cold Spring Harbor, and Columbia/Legacy Recordings will celebrate the occasion with a definitive reissue project of newly restored and expanded Legacy editions of the complete Billy Joel catalog, newly curated collections of rarities from the vaults, previously unavailable studio tracks and live performances, home video releases and more."

"Among the upcoming releases in the Columbia/Legacy Billy Joel 40th anniversary commemoration will be Billy Joel - Live At Shea Stadium, a 2CD/DVD and stand-alone Blu-ray edition of Billy's historic 2008 Shea Stadium concerts, a Legacy Edition of the 1973 Piano Man album, a Complete Albums Collection featuring 14 of Billy's original albums with a bonus disc collecting 16 non-album tracks and more."

Maybe those bonus tracks will include any of his big missing tracks on CD....... We shall see....

Is it the I GO TO EXTREMES CD single? UK? Does anyone actually have this and can verify it's the 12" mix as info from sellers on ebay and Musicstack is lacking.

Yes, I own it. It's definitely the extended remix, running an actual 5:33, with a long intro and a cold a cappella ending.
