Pat, an update for a recent entry in the database. As we now know, Stevie Woods' "Just Can't Win 'Em All" is finally out on CD for the first time. But as a friend recently pointed out to me, this is the album version. I compared this with his 45 and he's correct. Good news is the difference is that there's an edit near the end of the song (that shortens it by about 10 seconds); it's not a special mix as far as I can tell. So for those people who just want the single versions, they can still create it from this CD.

UPDATE: I just did the edit on the album version; the 10-second difference between single version and album version is slightly different than what I described above. There IS just one edit (at 3:34 - editing out one line). This counts for about 5 or 6 seconds. The remainder of the time difference is due to the fact that you have to chop off about 5 or 6 seconds of the end of the recording and then fade a bit early to match the 45 fade (which is a pretty quick fade).

UPDATE #2: My friend's 45 is faster than my Stevie Woods CD. But I don't know if his turntable runs fast or if the 45 master was simply sped up. Does anyone have both the 45 and LP (or CD) - and can you determine if the 45 was indeed sped up?

I have the U.S. commercial 45, but my stock "Take Me To Your Heaven" vinyl LP is a Japanese pressing. I compared the 45 with the custom edit version of the Japan LP. The result came out the opposite of the EdisonLite's report. The 45 is slightly SLOWER than the LP. Also the actual running time of the Japan LP is (4:08), the same as the "Take Me To Your Heaven" CD on the database. The actual running time of the commercial 45 is (3:56).

This could mean that the "custom edit version of the Japan LP" is different than the unedited version on the US LP.

Sorry for the wrong expression by me, EdisonLite.
About "the custom edit version."
This is a 45 version that I recreated from the full length LP version, for comparing speed each, easily.
This tune on the Japan LP also has the unedited version (time, 4:08)
