Both the commercial single and album version of Mr. Big's "To Be with You" contain a :06 introduction that starts with laughter and the plucking of a guitar string. It appears there are two CDs that don't have this :06 introduction:

Monster Ballads (Razor & Tie 89024)
1990 - #1 Radio Hits - 1994 (JCI 3197)

It seems I remember always hearing this song on the radio without the introduction. That said, I'm wondering if the above CDs contain what might be the radio edit. Does anyone have a DJ copy of "To Be with You" who can confirm this?

I can confirm that the DJ CD single of "To Be with You" does not have a :06 introduction with laughter or a guitar pluck. It has a one-second intro containing the bass slide, and the singing begins at :01. I do not know if the DJ single was available in vinyl format.

EdisonLite:

Yep! That's exactly how I remember hearing the song on the radio. I guess it can be concluded then that the two CDs mentioned in my previous post contain the DJ edit.

To further expand on this old thread...

These CDs begin with the descending bass note, and do not have the 6-second intro:
  • Living In The 90s (Razor & Tie, 1995)
  • Schwartz Brothers Compact Disc Sampler 12
  • Starland Music Presents Reflections Of Love (Warner Special Products, 1996)
  • Now That's What I Call Music 21 (Virgin EMI PolyGram UK, 1992)
  • Now 1992 (Virgin EMI Polygram UK, 1993)
  • Top Hits USA RH10
These CDs DO have the 6-second intro:
  • Guitar Rock - Pwer Ballads (Time-Life, 1999)
  • Guitar Rock - The '90s (Time-Life, 1996)
  • Body Talk - Always And Forever (1998)
  • Sounds Of The '90s - 1992 (Time-Life, 2001)
  • Atlantic's Year In Review - 1992 (Atlantic, 1992)
  • Hot Hits - Pop - Vol. 11 (1992)

FWIW, I have the cassette single (Atlantic 4-87580), and can report that it has the full intro with the laughter and the guitar, in line with what Todd stated in the first post in this thread. I bought it mainly to get the B-side, "Green-Tinted Sixties Mind", which got some airplay on FM rock stations prior to "To Be With You" becoming a hit.

My promo CD single (PRCD 4211-2) includes just one track, a non-described version with a listed time of 3:21, an actual time of 3:19, and includes just the :01 intro, confirming both Todd's and Gordon's earlier Top 40 radio recollections.
