Correct me if I'm wrong, but in the database, Pat lists "Australian 45 version" next to a couple INXS CDs with "Devil Inside." I'm 95% certain that the Australian 45 version is the same as the DJ edit. The edit on Best Of matches my TM Century disc (except the TM disc fades a little early and does not run 3:54 as Pat notes is the length of the DJ edit--but TM is notorious for messing these things up).

The version of "Devil Inside" on the cd "Shine Like It Does - The Anthology 1979-1997" is indeed the US dj 45 edit Aaron. The comment in the database of "Australian 45 version" came from the cd jacket and I am sure that is accurate but for our purposes, it is more accurate to describe this version as the dj 45 edit. Thanks for the tip.

Sure thing, Pat. Thanks for checking your DJ 45, as I only had Best Of and my TM Century disc to compare.

Regarding "Devil Inside", the database currently indicates that commercial copies all run 5:11. This is likely based on the time stated on the record label because abagon reports the actual commercial 45 run time at 5:09.

Does this mean the 45 edit of "Devil Inside" appeared on the Atlantic Year End 1988 disc?
It packs quite a punch in the mix compared to the full length version from the Kick CD.
I played that one when it was a hit and I can't remember if we used the edit or full length version.

The 30th Anniversary Edition of “Kick” lists a 7’ version, running the same
time as the album version.

@bwolfe - Yes, Atlantic's Year in Review: 1988 does contain the edit, which is indeed mastered
better than the full-length album version. It's just improved with EQ and compressors; it's not a remix.
As noted, the Australian 45 has the edit. So does the Japanese 45 and the Canadian promo 45. The edit was
also the B-side of the UK 45s of "Mystify" in 1989.
Most commercial 45s worldwide had the album version. The EU CD single also had the album version, labeled
as Seven Inch Version in the artwork and 7" Version on the disc.
I see in Discogs there exists a UK promo 45 with an even shorter version (3:15).

@mjb50 regarding your statement on how most commercial 45’s worldwide
had the album version, I could not find a release that actually listed a 7”
Version, which ran the same length as the album version and as I stated is on
the 30th Anniversary Edition. In the Wikipedia Track Listings, it mentioned a
release as such (7” or Album Version), but I couldn’t verify. It also listed a CD
release, which again I couldn’t verify. The label numbers for the listings
were missing. So, for now, i corrected the Track Listings section with 3 US
releases: 7”, 7” Promo and 12” with the label and label numbers. I know both
websites aren’t always accurate, but I moreso am swayed to Discogs on this.
