My U.S. commercial 45 of 'When I See You' by Fats Domino (Imperial 5454) states a run time of (2:00), but I timed it at (2:06).

Based on a couple of YouTube videos it appears the 78 RPM
version of this song runs about 2:09 or 2:10. This matches
the longer running time of some of the CDs. We've known
that there are many speed differences among the Fats CD
issues, but I wonder if part of the variation in running
times is due to 45/78 differences. Unfortunately I do not
have the original singles to verify.

Maybe we should have a catch-all thread about Fats' hit singles; my 78 of "I'm Walkin'" seems to match the version on the Fat Man box set, but which the database indicates is missing reverb. I've wondered if the 78 and 45 were mastered differently, just as you're getting at regarding "When I See You."

I've compared my 45 with the two CD appearance of the song
I have on They Call Me The Fat Man and Ace UK's
The Imperial Singles Volume 3 1956-1958. I do not
detect a speed difference, but the song fades out 2 or 3
seconds earlier on the 45 than on the CDs.
I see two uploads of supposedly 78s on YouTube. I am highly
suspicious that the audio of the one by 'Steve' is from a
CD and not from an actual 78. The UK London American 78 in
the other clip is identical to the 45.

Definitely a good idea to investigate more
into. As we well know, the 78 of Blueberry
Hill was a different transfer than the
flawed 45 version, even if the versions
match aside from the flaw.

I think an all-purpose Fats thread is a great idea.
Unfortunately I do not own the original 45s or 78s, so I
wouldn't be doing the heavy lifting. I do own the "I've
Been Around" box if comparisons are needed. It would be
great to go below the Top 40 too since those singles have
been investigated even less.
