As I revisited this one today, here's a summary of the various versions:

1. US promo 45 "Long Version" (no RE in the catalog #), 5:52 printed; 5:55 actual
2. US promo 45 "Edit" (no RE in the catalog #), 4:38 printed; 4:37 actual
3: US promo 12" "Long Version" 6:00 printed; 5:59 actual (runs about 4 seconds longer than promo 45 due to a later fade)
The above three versions are of the UK hit recording, which is not the same as the LP recording. The "Edit" has the channels reversed compared to the long version, and it also runs faster. There is one edit and an early fade on the "Edit."

4. US promo 45 "Edit" (with RE in the catalog #) 4:44 printed; 4:43 actual
This is an edit of the LP version.

Is the "Gruff" version one of the four tracks mentioned in

That was my post (not Ed's), and yes, the "gruff" version is the one in the link and mentioned in #1-3 above.

It's not available on Qobuz US and I'm unable to create an account with Qobuz UK, getting message saying I'm in the USA - which I am. I also tried via VPN using a UK IP however they do not permit registration via VPM. Almost like Qobuz is saying they don't want or need the business.

:sigh: One of the multitude of reasons folks pirate is that even when you are eager to hand over currency to purchase music they won't even take it.

Ah, you're right. That link above does indeed lead to Qobuz UK.

It's not that they don't want to sell to you. It's a rights/licensing issue. They can't even if they wanted to.

Just found out a buddy of mine has a pristine 45 I will needle drop it instead since no one wants my money :)

Hi whyaduck - sorry for the confusion. I was able to buy it from the US, but I wasn't logged in to Qobuz at the time - I was using my wife's laptop, and I paid with Paypal - I just checked, and sure enough they charge me in British Pounds, not US dollars.

I was just so elated to get the tracks in FLAC format, I didn't notice or care!

So yeah - I recommend shopping in "in-private" mode, or "Incognito" mode without your Qobuz login, and use Paypal to pay.

Got it. Thanks folks!

This explains why many years ago I though I heard a different version on then local rock station, with "good night, thank you, now it's time to go home"

I then figured it was some live or demo version and never heard it again.
