Here's another Jackie DeShannon question similar to my previous one... According to the database, CD appearances for "Put a Little Love in Your Heart" range in length from 2:29 to 2:37. Does anyone know the actual run time of the 45 and the original LP length?

Both the 45 and LP state a running time of (2:40) and they both run (2:38).

Interesting... So it appears all CD appearances of the song to date run shorter than the 45 and LP length, some by as much as :10. Thanks, I appreciate the info., Pat.

Mono 45 version (printed 2:40, actual 2:38)
The commercial 45 is mono. (According to a Todd Ireland post from 2012.) The mono version doesn't appear on CD. (EDIT: It does appear on a UK CD release.) I believe that the 45 may be a fold-down of the stereo LP version, but can't confirm. (EDIT: It's a dedicated mix.) Stereo LP version (printed 2:40, actual ?) The oldest CD I have with the stereo version is Time-Life's Classic Rock Vol. 6 1969 (1988), where it's taken from vinyl. You can hear an occasional crackle on the fade. As vinyl dubs go, it's not too bad; there's clearly no extra noise reduction being used. The same analog transfer is used on:
Finally, there's a better-sounding analog transfer on Cema Special Markets' Rock-N-Roll's Greatest Hits Of All Time Late 60s Vol. 3 (1995), which seems to be from a tape source. I don't hear any cracklies, or any loss in the high end on the fade (a telltale sign of noise reduction). This series uses mastering from earlier discs on virtually all of its tracks, but I don't know where this one originated. (EMI's Very Best Of? EMI's Definitive Collection? Capitol's Classic Masters?) Non-hit stereo remix (actual 2:31) It turns up on Rhino's Jackie DeShannon Best Of (1991), but I can't confirm that it originated on this disc. It's tasteful, and sounds terrific, but it's not quite the same mix as the stereo LP mix on the CDs listed above. On the original mix, there's plenty of reverb on the vocals; listen for the word "hesitate" at 0:18. On the remix, the vocals are relatively dry. On the original mix, the first snare hit is a teeny bit muffled, compared to the next snare hit and later snare hits. Not so on the remix. The same analog transfer as Best Of is used on:
For the original stereo mix, the best I can do is recommend Cema Special Markets' Rock-N-Roll's Greatest Hits Of All Time Late 60s Vol. 3 (1995), until I can determine where this mastering originated. It sounds fine here, but this is a relatively uncommon disc. For the non-hit stereo remix, I enthusiastically recommend Rhino's Jackie DeShannon Best Of (1991), which sounds superb. She wrote some great songs, and this Best Of includes her non-hit original 1975 version of Kim Carnes' 1981 hit "Bette Davis Eyes". Edited by crapfromthepast |

This isn't it? This CD came out in 2012. It was mono here. Is this not the correct version? https://www.discogs.com/Jackie-DeShannon-Keep-Me-In-Mind/rel ease/4658574 Album also now available as a flac download, by track, from Capitol, with a slightly different title: https://www.qobuz.com/us-en/album/the-complete-singles-vol-3 -1967-1970-jackie-deshannon/cjz8ktp77iemb Edited by Brian W. |

One of the three volumes of Jackie DeShannon Imperial and Liberty singles issued by Ace UK in their single mixes (unlike some of Ace's other supposed 'singles' collections, eg. Ray Stevens, Garnet Mimms). Jackie had only three Top 40 hits in the US; she had seven in Canada. Edited by Paul C |

Nice to know that it's out there - that looks like a nice package. It isn't listed in the database because it's a UK release.

Ron,
I did a sync-check on this a few years back. The mono is a dedicated mix, not a fold-down. The instruments vary in volume levels and the reverb is slightly different in the mono single. I had downloaded the mono from the above mentioned digital singles compilation. MM Edited by MMathews |

Those 3 ACE sets are great. They also produced a couple
of discs worth of compilations of other artists' renditions of Jackie's own compositions which are truly worth seeking out. |

OK, I'm a bit cofused. Is the mono single version on one of the ACE CD's?

getting back to the stereo....Collectables "The Very Best Of Jackie
DeShannon" CD has the fades earlier remix, so perhaps the original 1975 LP did? Discogs has the LP with timing 2:35 whereas the original LP states 2:40. Sounds pretty convincing to me, but the LP would be needed for our ears to verify. |
